Tips for creating characters

By Hashimoto, in Anima: Beyond Fantasy RPG

I'm still kind of new, but it's giving me quite the headache for how to create a character to get a game started. Recently I received a document from someone that has kind of help but still leaves me with a few more headaches than I want. Anyone have tips on how to make characters without causing such a headache?

I haven't done much with the system yet but I've started every character I've made by first deteriming what "focus" the character has be it melee combat, Ki Dominion, magic or what have you. Each class has a maximum percentage of points you can work with for things relating to that area. So by sorting that out and determing the max amount I can spend I just work with that. Once the core of the character is done then you work with the rest of the points for things like background skills and whatnot.

Don't know if that was helpful but the GM's toolkit has a small horde of pre-gen characters you can use as a point of reference.

Can anyone explain how to to the ki and ki accumulation? Like when you start up your ki accumulation and purchase another with DP, does it raise one characteristic by a point? Also with the Ki based on the characteristic, how does that effect the actual? I wanna make sure I'm getting this right. Plus when using DP to purchase another ki point, does it add a point do a single ki characteristic raising it by one?

I'll do my best.

Like when you start up your ki accumulation and purchase another with DP, does it raise one characteristic by a point?

No. Your Ki Accumulation for a particular characteristic goes up, allowing you to spend more Ki Points of that type per turn. It does not raise the characteristic.

Also with the Ki based on the characteristic, how does that effect the actual?

It doesn't. Your characteristic remains the same no matter how many Ki points you have, and is just as effective regardless of how many Ki points you spend.

Plus when using DP to purchase another ki point, does it add a point do a single ki characteristic raising it by one?

No. It just adds an associated point of Ki, giving you more Ki of that type to spend. It does not raise or enhance the characteristic.

Let's say I have Strength 5, Dexterity 8, Agility 6, Constitution 9, Power 10, and Will 5. This means I have 5 Strength Ki, 8 Dexterity Ki, 6 Agility Ki, 9 Constitution Ki, 10 Power Ki, and 5 Will Ki. I also have a Strength Ki Accumulation of 1, a Dexterity Ki Accumulation of 1, an Agility Ki Accumulation of 1, a Constitution Ki Accumulation of 1, a Power Ki Accumulation of 2, and a Will Ki Accumulation of 1. Let's say I buy two more points of Power Ki with my DPs and an extra point of Power Ki Accumulation. I now have 12 Power Ki, a Power Ki Accumulation of 3, but I still have a Power of just 10.

I use a houserule where Ki is completely generic until it is accumulated. I.E. you just have 100 points of Ki. Accumulating it is what turns it into strength Ki or dexterity Ki or whatever Ki. It makes life a lot simpler.

I'm pretty sure when ki accumulates it builds across the board, 1 point in every stat for Ki. If it was limited to a singular ability it would be almost impossible to get ki abilities off before combat tends to end. for example, the level 1 excisum aeris technique on pg. 106, takes 4 agi, 4 dex and 2 pow. If you accumulate only 1 Ki in each of those, it would take 4 turns to have the ki. If you only got 1 point/turn in a single stat it would take 10 turns!
