Axe-Rakes?

By Juggernaut 246, in Dark Heresy

This is something that has been bugging me ever since i bought the Inquisitor's handbook...

What exactly does an Axe rake do and what does it look like?

Ah. You haven't read the Gaunt's Ghosts books, have you? An axe-rake is used in mining. It's sort of like a pick-axe, but instead you have an axe-end that you chip away at the face with, and then you use the rake-end to move the ore away from the face and probably separate out ore from spoil.

Thats cool to know but how does this give you +10 to climbing test?

Friend of mine many years ago was a coal miner and the tool's correct name is a 'Collie Axe'

Basically its slightly similar to a climbers pick or ice axe in that you have a long sharp prong on one side of the head and either rake tines or a mattock type head on the other

I assume that the reason it grants +10 to climb tests is because you can dig the axe end into a wall and then use it to pull yourself up
