First please let me know if you want to help with creating a new kind of RPG system. I am trying to evolve roleplaying pass what it has been for the last few decades.
I don't have the time to take this project on all by myself. If you would like to help please PM (send mail to me by adding me to friendslist) for my vision. Some of you may know the name, Dave Arneson. If you don't and you are a roleplayer well then you owe it to him to wiki his name. This legend for RPGs was also a great friend of mine and a mentor. Dave an I were drafting out the new direction for RPGs. His health started to fail when it was just taking form. After he passed away I figured I could not do this alone and put the system aside. I was only a student of the school when I came to him with the idea.
"Instead of playing an RPG as a director and actors with the GM being the director and the characters the actors, let the GM be the screenplay writer and the players the script writers."
As a thank you tribute, I have decided to make the system use the Warhammer Fantasy license and let you guys loyal to it be the first to help with the direction of the game. However, just like the OGL for 3.5 DnD or the Hero System or GURPs, the idea is not to just make a cool Warhammer game, but more so a system that will be very easy to customize for whatever genre or
IP you want.
Best of all....
The rules for the game will be totally FREE to download until it is ready to be presented to a publisher. If Games Workshop declines the use of their IP I will leave it free and make the actual rules and characters cater to a new IP.
So I guess I need to ask my question now and get the first shocking response that Dave and I knew the system would get.
The system will work as a single book, will only use D6's......and *gulp* require minatures for the pre-made characters. New characters and monsters will release in packs each month in order to keep the game from running dry, BUT, I have a feeling players will make characters they want and use mini's they already have. Also as the system gathers more money more IPs or genres could get books.
For detailed description of "The Vision" please... instead of trashing the idea of pre-mades, inquire details and ask the questions through a PM.
With that out of the way...phew, I need ideas for what types of premade characters I should add for the core testing. These characters should not be the usual warrior, wizard, rogue, or priest.
Instead, to give you an idea...
I have come up with a Saurus Temple Guard, Wood Elf Wardancer, Human Witch Hunter, A Human Grey Wizard, Dwarf Berserker
The bad guys you can play an evil campaign with (yes that is right, you can be evil).
Cultist of Slaanesh, A Blood Dragon Knight, Dark Elf Corsair, Clan Skyre Engineer, and a Black Orc brute.
When looking at these characters I look for very unique characters that can be given a very interesting background story, are not the typical everyday class, and could provide very interesting abilities in combat. The reason I chose Grey Wizard for the caster instead of Bright Wizard for example, is because, I think to myself about all the cool shadow spells for combat and how they are not the typical blow everything up caster. Same goes for the Slaanesh cultist. Very few know about Slaanesh powers or lore.
So please just leave any other suggestions for characters that could play a unique role in a party of characters or that you would like to play as.
For inquiry as to "why pre-mades", please note, I was shocked too at first, but I will explain through private chat why it was decided.
