Father Dagon and Innsmouth minutiae

By Julia, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hi everybody,
a couple of reflections / questions regarding the IH expansion. First of all, when playing with Father Dagon as a Herald, a second Mythos card is required to be resolved during the "Mythos zero" phase. What if the second card is a Rumor? I'd say it's discarded (after all, we are still in a preliminary Phase, before the first round begins), but I don't know if I'm right...
Second thing: Falcon point movement. To move to Devil reef, or make another investigation move from an aquatic location to Falcon point, you need to use the special ability of the location. Does Tsathouggua's power Malaise negate it? I know how the Malaise power works, but Dunwich was released eons before Innsmouth and maybe I've missed something that was said about this point. I mean, in case Malaise affects even Falcon point, it's almost impossible to reach Devil reef (unless you're Silas) and so basically gates opening there cannot be controlled in any normal way (making the game really difficult to win)

I would tend to agree with your assessment of Dagon as it specifically says an additional card insinuating that all the same rules as the first would apply.

I'm not sure about Malaise though. I don't know if a ruling has been made on this already but I would tend to think that no it wouldn't affect falcon point as that could block an improtant area of the board. However knowing how many encounters at both falcon point and the essoteric order move you back and forth I could see it being fair to say it does block the ability as well. Barring an actual ruling I would say whichever you find most appealing.

Not sure if there's anything newer than this (Oct. 09), but Avi said:

It's been explicitly stated in the first draft of the new FAQ that he shuts down Falcon Point. I've asked for a reconsideration and a double checking of that ruling just because it seems so wrong, but, we'll see.

Yep... I'm afraid so :'/ but we still haven't done anything with the FAQ since the time I did my 16 page response to it. (I think it was 16 pages). So. Yeah :'/ Same answer now as then.

Thanks everybody for answering. Not so good news, but anyway, the tougher the challenge, the greater the victory ::epic smile::

As far as my first question is concerned, Avi, do you agree with Veet and me (I mean, discarding the Rumor since we are still in the Mythos zero)?

Second thing: do you think it's possible for the FAQ to say clearly which locations in Kingsport / Innmouth are untouched by the Malaise power? I don't care about Gilman House Hotel, but the Jail cell in Innsmouth, for example.

This is Tsathoggua's malaise ability-

Malaise - While Tsathoggua stirs in his slumber, investigators cannot use the special ability of any locations other than the Arkham Asylum, Curiositie Shoppe, General Store, Ye Olde Magick Shoppe, and St. Mary's Hospital.

I think the key word is "use." The Jail Cell's jail break ability is not "used," since it's just something that happens whether the investigators want it to or not.

Sounds right to me. Investigators don't "use" the Inner Sanctum, Kingsport Head, Inaccessible, and Accursed effects, so Malaise doesn't affect them.

I don't really have an opinion about the second rumor card (another card being placed means that there's a second clue somewhere on the board). Personally, I'd play that it stays though. Maybe :')

Yep, it has sense, indeed. Thanks to everyone! And please, do not tell Hank he shouldn't have been devoured by those shoggots a couple of games ago...
