New Card Night Runners question

By ivory_tower, in Warhammer Invasion Rules Questions

Ok, let's say I have a Warp Lightning Cannon attached to the Night Runner. I declare it has an attacker so now it gets the boost of 3 power from the cannon. During the action window that follows, can I corrupt the unit to have it deal 4 indirect damage to the opponent? Corruption states that a unit cannot be declared as an attacker but it has already been declared. So does this mean it will also deal its 4 damage in combat? How would the timing work for this? Kind of seems powerful if it works how I want it to.

Yes, you can corrupt the unit in the action window after attackers are declared. Or after defenders are declared, or after combat damage is assigned. So you could use the ability and then also assign the Night Runners normal combat damage.

Corrupted units cannot be declared as attackers or defenders, but once declared corrupting them does not affect their ability to participate.

The ruling on Franz' Decree ( Action: One target unit cannot attack or defend until the end of this turn. ) in the FAQ is probably the best indication that units declared as attackers or defenders are not removed from combat if they are corrupted.

This combo might be good in an indirect damage deck then. Along with reaper bolt thrower, surprise assault and followers of mork. Are there more indirect damage for destruction that I'm missing? Put in Seduced by Darkness to ensure the night runners isn't blocked and that's 8 dmg by himself. Chillwind to use warp lightning when it comes into play and corrupt another blocker.

Order side saves card space with Descendant of Indraugnir ( www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp ), which comes in at 4P with an Action: to do 4 indirect dmg when it is attacking (Night Runners need the Warp Lightining Cannon to get up to 4). Order also has access to the same indirect dmg cards that you listed (Repeater Bolt Thrower and Loremaster of Hoeth for Reaper and Followers).

That's true, but man that's a big casting cost. Plus Night Runners could also get a bonus from Clan Rats corruption ability.

A wild High Elf appears. It uses Blessing of Isha attack! It's super effective!

Hehe, well, when you truly think about it, it's just not a big difference. 6 resources (I'm assuming you can negate the loyalty costs via other cards) vs 2+2 (add 1 for Chillwind in case you want to attack the same turn). Spread out over a couple of turns, it doesn't look as much, but still you've paid the same. High Elves I've noticed require probably the most building of their KZ, so resources aren't an issue for them. Synergy with Clan Rats and other Skaven is something the Dragon can't touch though, I'll give you that.
