Arkham Horror Expansions (What to get)

By Maagen, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

I have had Arkham Horror for a while now and loving it! Best boardgame i've every played.
I have however been looking at some of the expansions and wondring which i should get. The Innsmouth Horror expansions sounds especially fun, with personal stories cards for investigators, and i've always loved the story "Shadow over Innsmouth".

So should I just buy what i want or is it better to start with Curse of the Dark Pharaoh and work my way from there?

While Innsmouth is a great expansion, it is for a number of reasons best introduced at the end, rather than the beginning. I personally quite liked Curse of the Dark Pharaoh and I would recommend it, but my opinion there is far from universal. What is practically universal, however, is the agreement that Dunwich is a terrific big box expansion and the most appropriate one to to get first. I would advise that you purchase either one or the other. I should warn you that Curse provides only a moderate difficulty increase, while Dunwich provides a major difficulty increase.

Okay makes sense - thanks :D

Can we make "What Expansion Should I Get?" into a sticky thread? Please?

um sure - no idea how though :P

You're welcome.

And yes, Avec, I agree. We really need to somehow make this topic into a sticky threat, rather than addressing it over and over again every few weeks.

;') I know, really.

But considering that that doesn't happen, we should probably make a hyperlink list with FAQs. It would save us a lot of time in answering this question as well as a few basic ones (like what happens when a gate opens on an investigator).

Just start a thread in reference materials or something, add a bunch of blank reserved posts to the thread and fill in each post with a different topic, bookmark it, then you can just post a link to each post depending on the question. Sort of an Information Repository thread.
