What glue should I use on the minis? I have tried 3 different glues (a super-glue, an epoxy and a plastic model glue), none have worked. Any suggestions?
What to use to glue the minis?
I've had this problem too. My Troll figure came with the flag kind of hanging off the base, so I tried Gorilla Glue. On the third application, I think I perfected the method and it held until my wife threw a book on top of it (accidentally), at which point it snapped off again.
So what I did was got some Gorilla Glue, following the directions (very small amount, slightly damp the surfaces being glued together) and I used a crescent wrench to weigh the flag down against the down against the base, to give it adequate bonding. I tightened the wrench up as much as possible and balanced it so that it was just sitting there overnight, and voila.
After that I just tried not to use the banner to pick the creature up. I'm not sure if there is any better bonding agent, but that's the best I've been able to find so far.
What figure are you trying to glue?
I am trying to glue the Horrific Hordes minis to their bases. The plastic is soft and flexible and nothing seem to stick to it. My next attempt will be trying Loctite's "All Plastics" super glue. It contains cyanoacetate and claims to bond polyethylene and polypropylene, which are softer plastics. It is a two step system that requires the application of a primer on both surfaces, followed by the glue. I'll post my results.
Eagerly awaiting those results
Gluing in my future as well...
WOW! Loctite All Plastics worked amazingly. If you use it, this is what I did:
- I had to trim a few sprue remnants off of the bottom of a few of the figure and made sure that the slots and holes on the bases were clear and open.
- Before gluing, I washed all of the piece in dishwashing detergent and allowed them to dry.
- The beveled felt tip of the activator/primer was too wide to fit into the slot. However, I was able to trim it in half using a xacto knife. It worked perfectly after that. The activator/primer has to be applied and allowed to dry. It says to wait at least 1 minute. I just went through each unit type and primed them all before I started gluing. It saved a lot of time, not switching back and forth for each piece.
- I applied the glue on each side and bottom (including the pegs) on the bottom piece.
- Placed the figure into the slots and wiggle them a bit to make sure they were firm.
- Checked the bottom to make sure that the pegs were in the holes. If they were not, I tried to put more pressure on that side of the figure.
- I held the figures tightly for about 10 seconds. The directions recommend 30 seconds, but considering how well the pieces fit together that is probably overkill.
- After gluing, I placed them on a piece of aluminum foil to dry. I started laying them on newspaper, but it stuck to the bottom of a few.
- I check the figures after a couple of hours and they were all firmly set.
Good luck.
Thanks for the info. I still can't believe Amazon doesn't have these yet.
Got around to rummaging through the contents this morning, and to my pleasant surprise I found that the figures fit into their bases quite well without the aid of adhesives. Not sure if that will remain the case
, but aside from removing excess plastic from two of the ninety-six holes among the bases, so far so good.
Still want to get around to painting...
Todd, does that mean you have the other units painted and are waiting to complete these? or do you just want to start painting all of your BL minis? You should totally paint while you play on vassal. You'd get through your minis in no time ;-)
Total number of BattleLore figures I have painted in the past 3 and a half years: 0.
Total number of times I have considered beginning to paint BattleLore figures and then thought better of it: who can say? But, one of these times I will not think better of it
I'll get set up in the basement...start my assembly line...
However in the meantime, that Vassal sounds good - howaboutit?
Logged in right now...

Thanks for this. I followed your advice and everything went perfectly.
