Victory points scoring question

By boocho316, in Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition

Hi all,

We had a situation pop up in last nights game about the way the scoring mechanic works. In our game, we had two players both on 9 VPs, and I was one of them. During my activation, I activated assembly and claimed the speaker token by giving the player to my left (currently on 5 VPs) the chance to play a political card. The agenda we voted on passed, and it resulted in everyone gaining a VP. This put me and one other player on 10 VPs at the same time.

Can anyone give me a little insight as to how we should declare the winner? I know that in the status phase objectives are claimed in order, preventing a draw from arriving, but we scored the points at the same time. I also know that the speaker breaks ties, but i don't know if that would apply in this scenario.

In the end we called it a draw and decided to come back after seeking a bit of aid from the interweb.

Any thoughts?

There's a section in the main rulebook on P14 which describes how to do this.

Victory tiebreaker is:

- Number of VPs

- Number of objectives claimed (including secret, special, etc)

- Number of planets owned (including home system planets)

I've never seen a game tie past this point, but then the next tiebreaker is the number of "unused Command Counters", but no-one is quite sure what that means.

I agree with possumman, you'd use the same procedure as you would for breaking a tie as you would with Imperium Rex showing up.

Okay, many thanks for the input!
