The Fog of Hurtgenwald

By Cipheron, in Tide of Iron

hi folks, just added a small skirmish scenario calld "the fog of huertgenwald" to the scenario list. hope you enjoy it. the americans have multiple ways to win this scenario, since they must only accomplish 2 out of 3 possible scenario goals.

the battle of huertgenwald (september 19th, 1944 to february 10th, 1945) has become the longest single battle the US army has fought in its history to date.

greetz!

Lokks good, thanks for the work!

thanks, the clue is to free the pow to get full use of the engineer specialization and the "clear mines"-op card to remove the minefield token in the 6a-hex containing the victory objective marker. otherwise, the americans can win hunting the panzer IV and securing the other objective hex. we playtested this scenario a lot. due to the "heavy fog"-op card, there will be longer short ranged firefights thanks to the additional cover. have fun!

This seems like a very fun scenario. However a question, how did the german avoid the US simply walking into two of the victory hexes first round? Did they take a german unit oficer and take the house themself? If so, couldn't the US simply assult them with a flamethrower or something, and then just sacrifice one unit to take the other victory objective?

well, since the germans are not allowed to fire at the pow, they cannot "move" into the house (via an assault, for example) . the german 89th infantry division is allowed to place two units in the hill hexes in the middle of the boards containing the entrenchments. they should deploy the machine gun unit there to prevent the americans from charging right towards to house. the germans can also decoy this machine gun unit using the concealed squad marker. so its up to german player when he gives his troops the fire at will-order when americans troops approach :-). the second unit from the 89th german infantry divison could secure the german objective hex or be placed in the other entrechment on the hill defending the pow at all costs.

this scenario works best for the germans when they place a concealed machine gun unit in the hill waiting for the american assault, it treally depends upon "where" you place your troops at the start of the game.

there are many little decisions to make in this small scenario. like i said before, this one was playtested app. 10-12 times.

ups, important update: i forgot to correct an error in this scenario: the germans begin in the "green" shaded hexes, the americans in the "grey" shaded hexes, ****, i forgot to switch the deploy zones. sorry. i will correct this.

AhA! Its misstakes like this which litter a lot of the official scenarios also, except here we corrected them :)

yeppa, thx. i received no mail to being able to re-modify my scenario, so i decided to write a "comment" in the scenario section itself.

you must simply switch the deploy zones, the germans start north (!), the americans south (!) on the map (otherwise the scenario makes no sense, hehehe)

maybe i get a response when the office is upon again and correct the typo. now i understand your statement moving an american squad from the north right into "the house" containing of one of the three possible victory goals. ****, shame on me... ;-)

Looks like it will be a fun one to play, I will have to give this ago next time I have a game running, how did you get into the editor as i have been wanting to use it to make my own battles yet everytime i click on the link it comes up with a blank page.
