Starting up a Talisman League at my local gaming store.
I have done up these following rule guildlines:
Talisman League Rules:
Standard rules:
All games are played with the following sets, Basic, Reaper, Frostmarch, Dungeon, Highlands. All normal rules and cards with only the Tavern Revisited card added (see, Other Rules form card omitted). Players can also pick Characters from the Mephisto set, (these cards are the 10 changed versions by Elliott Eastoe) treat these as a new set of characters.
Character creation:
All players take it in turns (roll off) to choose from 3 random characters from the whole pool or choose 1 random character from its edition pool. All choices are taken in order and all non-picked characters are returned to character pool before next players pick.
Players can if they want play with two characters, if they do they pick two characters out like they where two players. But they suffer the penalties and gains of both in Victory, Fame and Fortune points. Also because they have twice the chance of winning if they do they get a -1 Victory point penalty. In games of 4 or more players, no player can opt to pick 2 characters at once.
Character loss/dying during game:
Players who lose their character during the game can if they choose start again with a new drawn character just like normal before their next turn comes around. Their previous character is removed (thus can never be drawn again that game). New characters receive a +1 strength +1 craft bonus.
Victory, Fame and Fortune points:
Victory points are only awarded for winning a Talisman game. In the ladder the highest victory point player is top of the ladder. Fame points are only used if there is a draw in Victory points, in that case the highest fame player will be awarded the higher ladder spot. In the case both Victory and Fame are the same then Fortune is then compared. In the strange case all three are equal then the sport is shared between both players until one of them gets a point higher.
Victory Points awarded:
When a player wins a game of Talisman in the League they get 1 Victory point per player – playing in the game (not character) thus a six player game is 6 Victory points. Easy.
Fame Points awarded:
Each a player does the following in a game of Talisman in the League he or she gains a Fame point:
Kill another player (by combat, spell, special ability but not by Crown and Sceptre or Hand of Doom).
Beat the Lord of Darkness, Eagle King or Ice Queen.
Turn another player into a Frog.
Fame Points taken:
A player loses a Fame point each time they shamelessly get turned into a toad. It’s not possible for characters to go to negative Fame.
Fortune Points awarded:
At the end of each game IF your character is not dead (e.g. an ending card says a player just wins and does not kill everyone else). You count up all your gold each gold you have gives you a fortune point. This is stored and never lost even if you die poor in another Talisman League game.
Treasures count as 4 Fortune points and Relics count as 2 Fortune points if your character has them.
FAQ for the Talisman League Rules:
Dark Cultist : Can’t take trophies.
Valkyrie : Followers have to be killed to be resurrected. This counts not count to followers that go to discard pile without somehow dying.
Alchemist : You can only gain a spell through potions when you have spells below your spell limit. So in other words you have to cast before drawing.
Assassin : The assassin can only assassinate enemies on board not just drawn by the assassin.
Advanced Dungeon rules:
The following cards have to be dropped if characters have them when entering the Dungeon.
Mule, Warhorse, Riding Horses, Colossus, Dreadwing, Friendly Giant
Other Rules:
Riding Horses will not work in the Highlands.
All swords, axes, helmets, mules, shields, water bottles, rafts, armour and talismans have been taken out of all drawing decks.
