Overchanneling specialization

By limelight, in WFRP Rules Questions

what is the overchanneling specialization...I've looked everywhere????

It is used when you want to increase your power above your equilibrium.

See ToM p.34 for the mechanics of how to over channel, although the section is called "Excess Power".

There are a few instances of this; where the skill specialisations don't quite use the same terminology as other sections of the books. I guess this is down to different writers/editors working on different areas of the rules.

thanks but I still can't figure out what the specialization for "overchannel" does? When a character gets the spec. what does it do to help??

Good question – since there are no checks involved, no fortune dice can be brought into play. So I guess you can just decide what to do. One possibility would be to enable players with this specialisation to hold more than twice (up to three times, for example) their WP value in Power.

You would use it when you want to increase your power above equilibrium.

You do this by using the channel power action card, which requires a roll of the channeling skill. That's the roll to which the fortune die applies.

For example a wizard with willpower 4, conservative stance and current power 2, channels as his action, he rolls his channeling skill (without the extra fortune die because overchannel specialisation is not applicable), he gets 2 successes and gains 3 power.

he now has 5 power, more than his willpower and so spends a manoeuvre at the end of turn phase to control his power level. Next round, for his next action, he channels power again, as his current power is above his equilibirum, he is overchanneling and his fortune die can be added to his channeling roll.

If he had the specialization below capacity, then the fortune die specilisation would have counted against the first roll, but not the second.
