How to organize your collection

By Ghatanothoa, in CoC General Discussion

How do you guys recommend organizing your collection? I have cards stretching back to the CCG Arkham Edition, from every expansion. Right now I have them organized by expansion, but with so many smaller asylum packs now, organizing by expansion doesn't seem to be very convenient for deck building purposes. On top of that, recent asylum packs are changing the order that the factions are numbered in.

I'm starting to think that organizing my cards by faction (not by expansion) might be a better choice to ease deckbuilding. Maybe order by Faction/Card Type i.e. character, event, support), and then title? I'm not sure. That would be quite a pain as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I organize mine first by separating black/white bordered into two collections.

Then for white borders I organize them by faction,

then by 'Character/Support/Event',

then from most expensive to least expensive to play.

That puts the Great Old Ones in the Very first position of each faction, as they should be.

3 ring binders and UltraPRO platinum series sheets. They basically hold nine cards per page, but you can slip up to five comfortably in each one.

I organize by set, in numerical order. Then while Im eating my frosted flakes in the morning, i flip through binders instead of reading the back of the box. For me, its just faster to find a specific card. When someone on here asks/talks about a specific card, but doesn't type what it says, I can thumb to set and find it- easy (then go mad reading forbidden cards text).

I have black border CCG in their binders and the newer LCG in their binders.

since i use the deckbuilder program i keep all my cards in numerical order, makes it easier to find the cards when i need them.

That reminds me, someone needs to make a Mac version of the deckbuilder program. :) Has anyone tried running it under some sort of Windows emulation (crossover, parallels, etc.)? I'd rather not have to install Windows on a partition if I can help it.

It's a great question to ask now. We've just read both camps. One group keeps the cards numerically and uses the deck builder to sort ideas. Most of this group keep their cards unsleeved in card boxes. Others use binders, stuffing multiples in the same sleeve. They usually divide into faction-character, support, event.

Now with the incalculable new asylum pack, the sleevers blithely perpetuate a discarded form of order of factions, character, support, and events. The boxers are all freaked out and wonder if keeping them numerical makes any sense, deckbuilder or not. They're in a state of shock, and their new cards are not yet filed for just this conundrum.

After the arrival of secrets of Arkham I've reorganized my collection. Previously I had ordered them by number and expansion. Now, I've ordered them by faction, then by card type, then by cost, and for characters by skill and icons. I've also sorted out any duplicates.

Well, it is the game of madness and horror. gran_risa.gif

I might have to consider doing the same. What a pain.

I use Bento as a database off the LCG. You can use it as a rudimentary deckbuilder too.

Forgot to quote: I was responding to the question about Mac programs.

For my cards my boys have designed many decks, so they have eaten up many cards. The rest are sorted by faction kept in a Christmas chocolate box (just the right sizenot as good as Velveta boxes, but we don't have Velveta here in Sweden). Any attempts to organize further get destroyed by the boys and the deckbuilding process.

Creepy. I just started doing this, right down to the order: by faction - character, support, event. serio.gif I guess my brain works a certain, predictable way. It just seemed the natural thing to do.

You must not have good cheese steaks there either. gui%C3%B1o.gif A world without Velveta is like a world without madness!

Despite having all of the LCG sets I'm still a relatively new player because I've only been able to play a few games. As such, all my cards are still left in their individual Asylum Pack boxes & I've been deciding on how best to organize them. This thread has some useful suggestions but since my personal preference leans more toward creating "themed" or "story" decks I'm wondering how useful it would be to keep specific story expansions together, like with Dreamlands or Summons of the Deep , before sorting by faction/card type/cost/etc. I haven't yet gained familiarity with enough cards to know how well separate factions cross over with each other story-wise. Any comments or suggestions?

Don't have the link handy (too tired to search), but if you look on CoC's entry at www.boardgamegeek.com you'll see a link there for a deckbuilder. Windblows only, though.

Hi,

Please, look at the DeckBuilder topic here , you'll get all the info (don't be puzzled by the version in the topic's title, the DB is updated regularly).

A new version with SoA and latest APs will come soon...

Cheers,

Nyarla

Hi,

FYI, several Mac and Linux users reported to me that it works perfectly on these platforms by using WinE gui%C3%B1o.gif
