New "Fan" made expansion (with boards)..ideas, thoughts ?

By SilverleafBGG, in Fan Creations

Greetings,

A large amount of fan made additions - from cards to heralds to GOO's and Investigators have been created by various people and each certainly adds to the flavor of the system, while some are downright brilliant when they cover a specific topic - like X-Files etc. I've also noticed a few "fan-made" expansions that are closer to what is officially produced both in size and quality. A couple that come to mind with my thoughts on them in parentheses follow:

Sea of Horror (this seems to be abandoned as the map is unfinished - but workable)
Cult of the Golden Scarab (Like this expansion, love the cards, some treasures need tweaks)
Lost In the Woods (Have not assembled the map as of yet in Strange Eons)
Haunted House (I like this idea - and the choice to set it up at the beginning or when the clue pops up is excellent)
Outskirts (4 different versions that I know of - two are certainly playable)

So, my questions are:

Of the expansions listed above - which ones do you use?

Lastly, I've had this idea rumbling around inside my cerebral cortex for a while which involves a Board expansion, complete with a stronger Egyptian presence and items that are all interconnected. Perhaps even a couple GOOS that follow the expansion closer and are linked to the treasures found/aquired.

What expansions would you like to see, or are you currently working on?

Cheers and good gaming,

R.S.

In short I don't use them. It would cost a fortune to print them in any useable way and if they included anything to be mixed into existing decks it's downright imposible. Goo's Heralds and Guardians are the most cost effective way to influence the game and keep the quality at a useable level.

Yep, for me it's as Veet said. If I were younger, with some more free time, I'd go for playing with some of them. But now... time passes too quickly. If I'm lucky, I play Arkham three times a month, and I still have an endless row of planned games (working on some undefeated Herald + AO combos; playing Avi's custom league; start over everything again, from the base game, to see how much I've understood of this game and to explore all the possibilities offered by locations and game dynamics). I sometimes play with a custom Herald (there are many *really* good and **really** tough to beat) and / or a custom Guardian (Hermes in particular it's pretty fun). If I'd have to chose a custom expansion... well, probably I'd go with "The masks of Nyarlathotep" (there is a guy working on this), I really loved the CoC RPG adventures related to this ::laughing:: just a sweet memory of my adolescence

well, similar to previous responses. I have tested a lot of the heralds, guardians and scenarios. I enjoyed many of them and even incorporate them into scenarios of my own. I am now really into scenarios and also into these arkham investigations ( http://arkhaminvestigations.barkingdoginteractive.com/ ), which fit really well with my taste for more coherent games. I am translating and creating in this alternative way of playing.

as for full expansion (with boards), I tried some. Outskirts and Mountains of madness. Find them OK. I am still planning to test maybe cult of the golden scarab and maybe the haunted house as well as some others that are only in french. The masks that this guy is making looks interesting. Let see when it will be done. :-)

Oh, and for information. I may be not so young (referring to Julia's comment :-).
