The New Game - Arkham Nights

By Winter324, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Some of you probably have already seen in the Arkham Nights description the bullet point:

Preview an exciting upcoming title in this horrific setting...

So, that being said I'm sure a ton of people will hate on the idea but will be secretly thrilled, how cool would it be for a Battles of Arkham (a BattleLore game). Along the lines of the recent Battles of Westeros? Or how about an official version of a mixture between the existing board game style and a paragraph adventure like the Arkham Investigators mod?

Or, please oh please a Silver Line game that is solo play or co-op. Something small enough for lunch hour at work. The mind reels at the possibilities.

Of course it could just be an expansion for either the BG or the LCG I suppose though the wording suggests otherwise. Is it October yet?

This news article makes no such mention of a new game or a preview. Are referring to a different article?

Edit - I see it on this page. I wonder why that wasn't mentioned in the news article?

Cthulhu doesn't lay all his schemes right out there.

A new AO and a new Herald... maybe they will bring some other big box expansion in our life...

I've had more or less the same reaction... at least, Avi, you're living in the US, think about people living in the wrong continent...
SIGH

Julia, sucking his thumb (I feel like I'm five)

I can only assume the new AO and Herald will be posted to BGG after the fact.

Well, this could be the dice game I've heard rumors about. Or, it could be the gimmick where AH is combined with the CoC card game, as I remember hearing about a while ago. A new expansion is not something I would reasonably expect.

However, a Goatswood expansion, with the first of a new over-sea mechanic? That would be thrilling. This is me shamelessly calling it in the remote case that it happens to be true, by the way.

hmmm....i have friends who live near Roseville. They've been saying I need to come visit....

Now, some kind of game with a stronger focus on investigation and story. That's something I could get behind.

Battles of Arkham? Sounds all wrong to me. Mythos isn't Zombie Apocalypse. What armies would be supposed to fight against each other in such a game? Or what kind of game is a BattleLore game?

I concur. Epic battles between armies of ghoulies isn't really the way of the Mythos. I suspect I'd have great difficulty getting into that kind of a game in the Mythos setting. HPL's genius lay in small groups of normal people (frequently solo) having to deal with irrational and unexplainable circumstances and somehow not go insane in the process. His is a slower type of spine-chilling.

I'm sure one could create armies of Deep Ones or Shoggoths or whatever if they wanted to and then pitch them against one another, but that wouldn't be a game I'd be interested in, personally. For one thing, if there were an army of humans involved, even as just one faction, it would knock out the insanity factor. People stop questioning their sanity when a couple hundred other people are all standing there seeing the same unbelievable things they are.

These sound like promo goodies to me, not so much a promise of new expansions to come. Mind you, I don't believe the expansions (big box or otherwise) are done yet, either. Thus far they've been alternating big and little box expansions. Lurker is a little box which means another big box would be due out sometime next year, by my calculations. I'd wait until next year before I started worrying that a new big box may not come, even then I'd probably wait a year or two before I gave up entirely.

My guess is it's the AH dice game, but another expansion (big, small or otherwise sized) is certainly possible. And it may end up being something more COC related than AH related.

Noting now the new AO and herald, I am extremely interested. If it is a legit AO, it'd better be eventually available to the general masses, in print form!

Likely in the same manner as Dunwitch Horror or Dark Pharoah.

I'm glad Cthulhu gets a weekend at the event center. I hope it's well attended and those that get a chance to go have a great time. Maybe if there are leftover goodie bags they'll be on sale after the weekend. I'd love the new domain cards for CoC and the Arkham goodness.

Maybe its an adventure after the sun sets in Arkham..maybe its an adventure on Whiskey Prohibition.. this or that or something else - either way, it sounds intoxicating to me. 8)

An RPG system based on the Lovecraftian mythos perhaps?

FFG has been pumping out quite a lot of RPG related stuff lately (and who can blame them with the fiasco d&d 4th ed has turned out to be)

Why compete with Call of Cthulhu though? (I'm eagerly anticpating Delta Green: Targets of Opportunity)

I wouldn't imagine an RPG, not with Call of Cthulhu still in production. Unless their buying out Chaosium.

I've always wanted a more exploration type Cthulhu game, maybe something like Betrayal at House on the Hill. Something with specific adventures, where the players may be driven insane and turn on the others.

That would kick ass. Not only would something along those lines be perfectly in keeping with the Mythos, but having missed my chance at buying Betrayal, I would welcome a new game with a similar style. =D

I hope that if I end up going, that these will be an EXCLUSIVE ancient one and herald. Of course, I will want them to be made available on this site for everyone to be able to use. But if I got to get an official version, I don't want to find out that this exact same herald and AO is being included in the Mountains of Madness expansion (or whatever the next expansion may be).

I also find it odd that none of the Arkham Nights news stories are on the Arkham Horror of COC LCG pages. That's all I check and wouldn't have even known about this event if it wasn't posted here. The cool thing is that my wife wants to go too, so no need to explain why I need to travel 650 miles away to play a board game with other people, heh.

Betrayal is getting a new edition release this fall.

I posted a thread about the new game, but no one replied. I figured they didn't care, or were posting over here. I noticed that someone else posted a thread about the new domain cards.

Also, lucky you get to go. Make sure you have fun.

No, please don't encourgae FFG to go down the exclusivity route. Go down the sneak-preview route instead. Exclusivity disenfranchises those of us who can't attend. A sneak preview doesn't, as we will get the goodies eventually.

Also, anyone else think they should have held in the week after, so that it ended on Hallowe'en?
