Nominations for Least Popular Card Art - Corruption Cycle

By Artemus Maximus, in Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game

I thought it would be interesting to see if there were certain cards / artists that people consistantly felt had below average artwork, in their opinion.

While art is considered by most to be subjective, it is undeniably popular & unpopular (rather than good/bad imho). I would just like to give FFG the chance to hear our opinions in order to give them feedback on what some of its WH:I fans & players like!

I certainly do not intend to disrespect any of the fine artists who have contributed to the great feel and theme of this game - as each piece is special in its own right, and we are lucky to have such a great variety of talent so far. Simply, to give input to what we like more than others, as the art direction can be taken into several paths.

I'd suggest nominations be for Core Set, Asault on Ulthuan, and BPs 1-6 of the corruption cycle at this point

Please include card name & artist happy.gif

The style of the Volleyblaster Cannon is quite different to the rest of the cards.

So you are asking us to vote on our least favorite art for FFG to let go in an already tough business world?

I know you mean no disrespect, but perhaps you didn't figure that if we want less of one art style, then that means less freelance pay for that artist.

He started a thread for the most popular card art too, I highly doubt ffg are severely influenced by one forum thread.

Interestingly though the least popular card art page has 3 replies the most popular has 0. I unfortunately am not an art lover, I do love the game, but I never get amazed or distraught over art, I know I can never do any of the art on the cards so in that sense there all amazing. I just wanted to defend the thread starter over putting up this thread.

I appreciate your opinion - youre right, if many people voice a strong dislike for a certain artist it MAY influence FFG, but to be honest, i do really doubt a few critiques on here is harmless. And that's the truth about pay for artists, generally speaking - the more 'popular' the art at the time, the more likely they'll see more pay. But I am sure WH:I are pretty safe since we're already voting on all of them at once with our dollar (or euro, etc)...

That being said my intent was just to discuss the art - for instance i'd personally point out Spider Riders (which illus. being accredited to GW, using existing artwork, i'd bet it's safe to say no freelance artist will be hurt here and actually using existing art doesnt help create freelance work of course).

While it gives a nice sense of a surprise attack, as chosen artwork for the card, i don't much care for it. Being one of the most powerful 1-cost units in the game, its composition to me is too subtle for what it is - its center of focus being 2 empire units in the midground. Would've been great for some orc tactic, but as one of orcs' most feared units, it falls short to me. I would've liked to see something with the lethality of the Spider Riders shown more prevelantly.

Least Popular and Art in sentence better also include Rob Liefeld. serio.gif

Did he ever learn how to draw forearms and hands? And noses? And what's up with everyone having extra beefy thighs?

Oh. Cap... No. Cap...

That being said, I have no love for the Slayers of Karak Kadrin

They are in the AoU set, not corruption cycle ;) I like their art BTW.

My least favourite card art in the set is the Silver Helm Detachment. They seems to be turned into ghosts with mutant horselike creatures. (overall I think HE have the most weak arts in the game)

Funy, I thought the same thing about Silver Helm Detachment - I didn't know if they were meant to be given an 'ethereal look' like (for lack of a better example, lord of the rings, fellowship, Elves' walk to the Grey Havens) or just ghostly...I don't know enough about the table top game to put it in context...

I actually like the choices they made on most of the artwork for the elves - Dragons are all great, Initiate of Saphery, Shadow guys, the Heroes have a nice clean look to them - ALMOST like a hint of (again, best way i can describe right now) Final Fantasy - except Illyriel; in & of itself it's alright, just reminded me too much of a card from M:tG Ice Age or Alliance era..

Artemus :

I know some of Warhammer fluff, and the Silver Helms are anything but NOT ethereal/ghostly looking originally. They should look like mayestic rather than... uhm... withered. Look at Charge of the Silver Helms for a more proper looking SH group.

Another strange looking HE cards :

- spearman
- Banish (looking like if she's banishing a painting, not a monster)
- Ellyrian Reavers
