Marauder, Scorpion, Tarle, Moat

By Rozy, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

1. Veteran Marauder: Attached character gains Stealth.

Response: After you win an unopposed challenge in which attached character participated, attach Veteran Marauder to an opponent's location. Treat that location as if its printed text box were blank while Veteran Marauder is attached.

So what happens with the attachment if the response gets canceled?

2. Scorpions Underfoot: Any Phase: Kneel 3 influence to choose 3 characters. Until the end of the phase, one of those characters loses a M icon, the second loses an I icon, and the third loses a P icon.

Can I use it if there are not 3 characters I can choose? (only 2 for example)

3. Tarle the Thrice-Drowned: If Tarle the Thrice-Drowned has 3 power on him, discard him from play.

Response: Save Tarle the Thrice-Drowned from being killed. Then, he claims 1 power.

If his responce gets canceled can I use it right again or does it fall under the once per trigger rule?

4. Frozen Moat: Challenges: Kneel Frozen Moat to choose 1 attacking character. Until the end of the challenge, treat that character as if its printed text box were blank.

Would a character that gained an ability from Lost Oasis lose the ability too? Also when I blank the text box the character loses traits, right? So bodyguard from a lord would be discarded since its restriction is not met anymore...?

1. Since veteran marauder's response was cancelled, the attachment will stay on the character.

2. No, without 3 legal targets, you cannot play that event.

3. don't know the answer to this one. I don't believe you would be able to use that ability again, but I have no rules to back it up.

4. Because the stealth given to the character is not part of the printed text box, the character would still have stealth from Lost Oasis.

Ktom will probably verify/discredit some of my responses shortly :)

1. As Fieras said, the attachment stays on the character. You have to win another unopposed challenge in order to trigger the ability again due to the once per trigger rule you refer to in #3.

3. Save/cancel responses are still responses so they can only be triggered when a certain trigger condition is met. In this case, the condition to trigger Tarle's effect is him being killed. Since that only happens once, you can only trigger his save response once and can not trigger it again after it is canceled.

4. From the FAQ:

(3.8) Gaining Abilities
If any card effect has the text "character
gains...," any ability (traits, keywords, icon
modifiers, or STR modifiers are not considered
abilities) following the word "gains" is consid-
ered to now be a character ability. However,
that effect is not assumed to be a part of that
character's text box. Any effect that blanks a
card's text box is assumed to blank that card's
printed text box.

So the character does not lose the ability from Lost Oasis.

From the FAQ:

(3.7) Card Abilities
"Card abilities" (i.e. "Character ability,"
"Location ability," or "Attachment ability")
refers to anything in a card's text box, except
for traits, keywords, and flavor text. "Card
abilities" also refers to any abilities (again,
keywords and traits are excluded) gained by
card effects

From this FAQ entry you can infer that traits are part of the text box. An attachment with an attaching restriction like Bodyguard is constantly checking that its restriction is met so it will fall off when the character loses the Lord/Lady trait. (In the text box: traits, abilities, keywords, and influence/gold/initiative modifiers).

The thing here is that if it gets canceled he is still dying so I want to save him againg thats why I asked and your answer confuses me more...

If Tarle dies, you attempt to use his own "save" ability, and it is canceled, he is indeed still going to die. However, it is still the same effect killing him, so you run up against the "one Response per trigger" rule in regards to his own ability. You cannot trigger his "save, then claim a power" ability a second time for the same kill.

What you can do is use a second, different "save" effect/Response, like Maester Wendamyr or Iron Mines or Risen from the Sea, to save him.
