Using Tactic cards during Strategize

By Rone27, in Runewars

Hi,

Can a player use a tactic cards between 2 actions of Strategize?

I chose the Strategize order card, moved a unit to block all retreat routes for neutrals in a zone. I used the tactic cards which forces neutrals in a zone to retreat. Since they couldnt retreat they were destroyed. I then moved a different unit to gain control of the now empty zone.

Is this allowed?

This is definitely allowed and a good example for a smart use of the strategize order.

As Graf said, definitely legal and often tactically wise. You can play a tactics card that says to play on your turn ANYTIME during your turn: Before executing your order, After executing your order, or anytime in between.

I have used that tactic myself, in various forms. Move some units to one empty area, then use a card to force neutrals to retreat to take their area without worrying about them taking the first empty area.

Note, however, that during the Hero Quest phase, it is NOBODY's "turn" - so you can't play cards that say to play during your turn, even if you are moving your heroes at the time.

Without any doubt, you are right. But I think there is a tactic card that should be allowed to be played in the quest phase: the card that allows you to move units or heroes across mountain borders.

As you aren't allowed to play this card in the quest phase, the only situation in which heroes can benefit from that card (that is explicitly written for heroes, too) is a strategize order: And this order wouldn't even allow you to move a hero on enemy territory or on areas that contain neutral units.

I think this tactic card isn't meant to suffer from such a restriction: I think this card should allow heroes to cross mountains in their quest phase. I know, it is not covered by the rules, but I would definitely allow my players to use this tactic card in the heroes quest phase.

You are right, the Hidden Pass card doesn't suffer from such a restriction, and IS playable. But the reason is that it doesn't say "Play during your turn", but rather it says "Play when moving units and/or heroes." The same applies to the Teleportation card, as well.

The cards I see that you "Play during your turn" that I see players wanting to play during the quest phase are:

- Band of Brigands

- Flute of Possession (a relic card)

- Coercion

- Lost City

(There are others, too, but those are the ones I've seen most often).
