Mix and match party

By Void_onion213, in Rogue Trader

counting that the series of dark heresy, Rogue trader and soon to be released Death watch share the same general space and system. what kind of a pc group could we expect to form if you took into account inquisitors and book, assention, and into the storm. And purposefully stuffed them all into a rogue trader vessel.

What I ask you is what sorts of calamity and akward moment can and will happen through the abrupt mixture of space marines, sisters of battle, orks, kroot, inquisitors and rogue traders. sharing the same living space for months at a time.

please be gratious and include every possible situation that could insue between these vastly different sets of room mates.

if it helps, remember the justice friends

hey ! i don't have a problem with this ,, back in the days i ran and participated in great ad&d campaigns using spelljammer/outerplanes/all the different ad&d worlds and all the different characterclasses and kits in a great mix.. as long as the DM/keeper can keep track on all the rules and create a good story i personaly feel that this is the best way to play and on top it provides unlimited avenues of adventure . hey hey!

i know it's a great idea, though from the games i've been in. mayhem normally ensues, mostly group infighting. but still. this is the 40k universe so i expect some party friction, especialy if there is say an ork freebooter and a space wolf across the hall from each other and a inquisitor looking over the shoulder of the rogue trader. among other volitile situations dirived from having such a diverse group of explorers types and how far each individual decides how far to take the rolplaying aspect,

as i said before, it makes for a wonderful experiance to have space marines, the inquisition, xenos and a rogue trader dynasty all working cooperatively under one roof. it would be out of context but fun. example of group friction " the Ork big mek on your ship regularly fights with the explorator for trying to install a big red button on the command throne". just wait till the light bulbs burn out, lol

Well, there's a distinct difference between party friction, and all out inter-party war. The biggest question that the GM needs to be able to answer is 'why?' What ties this group togeather and keeps them from killing eachother besides meta-game desire not to kill other people sitting at the game table. What's keeping the Ork there? What's keeping the Inquisitor or Space Marine from killing him? Why doesn't the Rogue Trader just kick them all off at the next port? etc.

I've seen similar games work, but you need a really, really strong plotline to hold the game togeather, or it just a) devolveds into PC warfare or b) breaks suspension on the characters and they just get allong fine because they're all PCs.

the xenos are part of the Rogue traders retinue, the inquisitor worked out a deal with the RT for transportation and the death watch marines are also along for the ride. the action for the xenos, marines, inquistor and rogue trader groups mind you will be played be other players and the reaction and inter action between them including purpose as to why they are gathered is up to the pcs. as GM, you goal is to make a fun engaging sequence of events based on external influence from npc, personal actions taken by the rogue trader and inquisitor and minor interactions between the retinues of both. there is no garentee that they won't kill each other, or at least participate in a friendly sparing match. Gms not only help aid the party with hints and clues, counting your opinion on ant farms, sometimes in times inter-party war, you need to shake the jar a bit with maybe a gellar field malfunction or other form of cattle prod to at least encourage partial cooperation. but again it all depends on the players, the ork may be a gentleman or might actually be useful to the engine seers if he is a big mek. kroot are always interesting. and of course does the RT and inquisitor get along.

That is the Blessing of the 40k universe. there is no real correct way to interpit the reason of a gathering of seemingly incompatible character and personality types other than that they happend to be at the same place at the same time in the presence of the same even.

"If you are going to bicker aboard my ship, don't spill any blood thankyou. Just had the floor cleaned"
