By Gentil Baba, in Tide of Iron

Waouw ! Well painted figures ! Good idea while waiting the second front ! I'll do the same ! Thank''s

I really like the pictures - thank you for posting them.

Here, FFG, is what the SU-122 and T34 models should look like: (note: these are 144th scale models, very close to scale of TOI base FFG13002_500.jpeg FFG17001_500.jpeg FFG13001_500.jpeg

Below are British Infantry (72 scale) which I am including in this forum for a color reference guide. I will try to find some others and post again.

Super pictures, thanks for posting ... I am getting to the point where I will have to put away slime green and chainmail and get some WWII colours!

Thanks, Nath, for the suggestion about FOW, but I have decided to paint my TOI set of tanks, and so far they look better than I thought they would. And I just recently bought the expansion boards, which look good with painted figures on them. There seems to be a point at which you cannot go much farther, without then having to go full into 3d miniature. I think i have managed to find the right balance of more color and realistic detail, yet retained part of the abstract nature of the board game format.

The infantry figures are the question here. So far I just painted all the Germans with a slightly lighter blue grey (but still darker than the original plastic grey color) than the tanks. Then painted the Americans with a darker green and used a little black wash to help out with tracks and such. I have decided at this point not to paint the faces or rifles, but just leave them as abstract, and uniform, so at a glance, you can see where all your infantry is vs the more colorful. guns, and vehicles, and camo tanks. If everything is multi colored, then there is not contrast, or distinction, and it looks confusing.(IMO)

Have not decided about what base color to paint the British TOI set, but am thinking maybe a lighter sand color with white, or light brown streak camo but with darker tracks and brown wash over the roadwheels. Or could go with light olive drab and some yellow camo. Whatever i do, they have to be different enough from the yellow brown /tan color of my Afrika Korp painted portion of the TOI base game, ie. enough contrast to distinguish them.
