Check BGG, that's always a good place for variant rules.

Also, if finding people to play with is your main problem, check out the online forums and games at ti3wiki.org.

Considering how much of TI3 depends on interaction with other players, I think a solo variant would be difficult, to say the least.

BGG has some interesting Solitaire versions, but it should be noted they aren't really TI3; they share some mechanics, but as Steve-O points out, this isn't a game that works well Solitaire as-is. You can make some solitaire games with the components, sure, but even if you share some mechanics, it will play very, very different

Thanks for the feedback guys. That's pretty much what I figured. You're right that my main problem is finding players. Also, I've never played the game, but it looks excellent.
