A Desperado on Avalos (DH/RT characters in Deathwatch)

By Jephkay, in Deathwatch

My fiance has an ascended Scum. A downright mean feral world desperado who has decided to join the Deathwatch game tomorrow. I'm all for it. Obviously, some time must have passed for her to find herself this far from home and hanging with the Ordo Xenos.

In Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader , she got along just fine with a hand cannon or two and a bad attitude. I think she's going to need some gear to play with the Big Boys. There's no way I figure a little slip of a girl can dish out the damage like an Astartes . But I figure some Power Armor (All: AP7) would start to level the playing field a bit. She's always been real keen on not being there when the damage came in. You name it, she's got the damage-avoidance talents aplenty. Are these are ineffective against Hordes (maybe not Hard Target?)

I suspect this will be faced by many in Deathwatch , gender issues aside. (which have been discussed heavily)

As a GM or Player, how do you see Ascended characters faring in Deathwatch ? Has anyone else tried it?

Bascially, don't try to compete with the Marines on their home turf. Instead emphasize what the character is good at: Sneak, snipe, swindle, steal.

Perhaps the Desperado wasn't part of the Deathwatch team, but got into the mess a lot sooner, as part of the Inquisitor's retinue? Thus, the Marines could pick her up at the chapel. She has had time to get some local intel and set up a few cover identities as a rebel she can use during the mission, playing the game like a Desperado (*) instead of a Space Marine-wannabe.

(*) I don't know... the career name really doesn't fit the theme behind it. Desperado sounds more like "gunslinger with no ressources apart from his trusty six-shooter" than "criminal mastermind". Now I haven't checked on all the talents and skills, but the whole package of Influence talents seems it's more of the latter.

As Cifer said, non-marine characters will have a **** hard time competing with the Astartes in terms of combat prowess. They should fill some other role. Inquisitors, Interrogators and Sages seem like great fits for a Deathwatch team; they're the expert/VIP that they need to escort and protect. A Hierophant would fit into this role but would have less reason to be associated with the kill-team in the long term. The Magos and Primaris Psykers can also work if the group lacks a Tech-Marine or Librarian.
