Final Sanction Satellite Map - Lordsholm

By Court Jester, in Deathwatch

I'm hopefully running Final Sanction tomorrow and so threw together this map to aid with the carnage.

lordsholm-districts.jpg

Red - Portica District
Blue - Magistria District
Yellow - Calistria District
Green - Fabrica District

Some locations are a touch obvious... I used the Pentagon as the PDF base and an airport as the Space Port. Many locations I've not represented because they could be anywhere within the district so feel free to place them wherever you want.

Here is a link to a BIG version, close up it's not that neat and more than a bit scrappy in places but it serves it's purpose.

Any comments, suggestions and whatnot... thow 'em at me.

Nice work. Beautiful map.

F'ing hell, nice job, photoshop or what did you use?

Yup, photoshop and a copious amount of googled satellite images. All based off of an image of Karbul.

When you look at the image close in you can see all the mistakes where I haven't had time to fix roads that disappear into the sea of seams between layers so streets seem to blend into one another at points. The canals are also very last minute slap dash, but I'm more than pleased with the overall result, which is what I was aiming for.

Really nice. I'll have to figure out how to get a nice big print of this before I run the scenario again...

Thought as much, I'v been toying around in illustrator and cad with something called city planner, might upload a pfd if I get it finished.

It looks really very nice, and I hate to spoil things … but ... the districts are quite a bit incorrect/off from what is described in the book.

1. The Magistria District is on the north side of the city, atop the cliffs overlooking the bay. (pg 25). Note that it says nothing about the PCs having to go through a different district to get from the Portica District to the Magistria District. I would think these are connected/adjacent Districts.

2. The Portica District is the southeastern portion of the city (pg 25). See note above, it should connect to the Magistria District too.

3. The Calistria District is the western portion of the city (pg 25), and connects the peninsula (where the city is on) to the mainland.

4. The Fabrica District, although stated as in the center of the city (pg 26), is actually surrounded by the Calistria District. We know this because, pg 36, it is “On the far side of the Calistria District” along with pg 35 regarding the Calistira District that says “The Calistria District is the heart of the rebellion and the gateway to the Fabrica District, and the players must pass through this District…” Since the PCs start in Portica District, this means that the majority (or a large amount) of the Calistria District is between the Portica District and the Fabrica District.

Probably the most important thing is #4. The players must go through the Calistria District (and overcome/bypass those challenges) to get to the Fabrica District. The others probably don't matter too much gameplay-wise.

I think this guy has the best "technically accurate" map of Lordsholm I've seen. Everything seems to be in a logically good place, the canals look "realistic" (which for me means like Amsterdam, being the only major city with a large canal network I've visited), and the typography like something you might see in the real world:

Unfortunately it's kind of basic, appearance wise. It'd be awesome to get a map laid out like his, but looking like this one.

:)

See... This is the type of feedback I like. 8)

I removedthe compass arrow before generating the jpg of the map but north for my map is pointing towards the right hand side of the map. With that in mind the districts are vaguely in the right places based on the text.

However you have quite rightly pointed out some other description further on in the booklet that I missed. I'll hopefully get a corrected version out asap.

If anyone else has a map they want to show off please do so here, I don't mind other people threadjacking me to get their creations show. The more maps we see the more clear the city becomes.

I agree. This fits pretty close to how the book describes it as far as I can tell.

Reference cards? That sounds handy.

Any chance you could spare a link?

On topic, the map looks astonishing. Any chance of a "GM" version with the notable locations identified for ease of reference?

Edit: Nevermind on the cards. It's amazing what you can discover once you utilize your mouse's scroll wheel.

Using John's map (linked to above) as the canvas I have rebuilt my map.

lordsholm-districts1.jpg

And the link to the uber big version...

The colour coding is now out of sync with my initial post but it should be pretty obvious what is going on especially if you have Johns original map. If people really need the district names I can add them on.

Awesome, thanks for doing that man! Would it be easy to produce an unkeyed version as well?

Lovely maps, good job. happy.gif

I'm forced to think however, that the work I find really inspiring and great, such as these excellent maps, is all too often coming from 'amateur' fans and not FFG ... preocupado.gif

Yoink!

That, sir, is made of epic quantities of win. Thank you!

Howdy!

Thank you for improving our game session greatly.

That is some seriously nice work! Good job!

Great stuff man, looks the bees-knees!

FFG can't make everything, they made the adventure. But its great to have fans as dedicated as this to create tools such as this, look at Gregarious he makes tons of fan supplements that FFG would probably never have even thought of.

Excellent work on the maps, guys! These should prove handy in running my upcoming game :)

Annoyingly, in Oblivion's Edge there is a new reference to the city layout that reads thus...

  • Getting out of Lordsholm or crossing the city to the spaceport is, of course, easier said than done. It involves leaving the protective walls of the manor and finding a path across the ruins of at least the Magistria, Calistria, and Portica districts.

And...

  • or even lowering a boat (such as the Lord-Governor’s luxurious yacht) down the cliffs to sail across the bay [to the space port]

I am inclined not to pay any atention to it because it contradicts most of what is written about the districts in Final Sanction.

That is annoying.

The second point could be accomodated by moving the spaceport to the other side of the Portica district, so that it's on the Bay (although personally I think it makes more sense where it is on the current version of the map).

The first point is more problematic, because it contradicts the assertion in final sanction that the Portica and Magstria districts are adjacent (unless there is something whacky like a protrusion from the Calistria district that cuts across part of the Portica district. I've tried sketching something up for that, but I can't get it looking right (and still requiring the PCs to cut through the Calistra district in a shortest path from the Manor to the Spaceport.
