Descent Expansion Sets

By any2cards, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I was hoping that someone could confirm the order (from oldest to newest) of the expansion sets. Do I have this order correct?

Descent: Journey into the Dark

Descent: Well of Darkness

Descent: Altar of Despair

Descent: Road To Legend

Descent: Tomb of Ice

Descent: Sea of Blood

Yes. But you don't have to buy them in order, they're mostly independent.

In particular, Road to Legend and Sea of Blood are advanced campaign expansions, so, depending on whether you want to play an advanced campaign or just regular quests, you may want to get one of them first or skip them entirely.

And just to clarify, Sea of Blood and Road to Legend are not compatible with each other. You can play one or the other, but not both.

But the campaign expansions both use treachery, which is introduced in one of the other expansions, right?

Yes, though you can use a simplified version of treachery in the event that you don't have that expansion. Personally, I think the campaigns play best if you have all of the other expansions. Get Road to Legend or Blood Ocean after you already have the other three.

The campaign expansions explain treachery rules again in so much as it is needed for use in the advanced campaign. Treachery cards were included in both Well of Darkness and Altar of Despair, both of which re-explained treachery rules in their rulebooks. I don't remember if there were any trachery cards in the AC expansions, or if you would just be limited to non-card expenditures without WoD or AoD.

I agree with Cymbaline that the campaigns are better if you have access to all the goodies in the other non-campaign expansions, but that doesn't mean the campaigns are unplayable without them.

There aren't.
