Flavour/ Backstory for Runewars

By jkb2, in Runewars

Is there any sort of written fiction based on the Runewars/Runebound/Descent series? Cause, I'd like now a bit more about the races and heroes that are present in Runewars.

Just the bit that was written in the front of the rulebook, as far as I know. Some of the Runebound character cards have little "quotes" from the hero that could give an indication of some of their background, but not much.

The Battlemist rulebook can probably give a little flavor, too, though from what I can tell, the "Battlemist" era was a few hundred years or more prior to the events in Runewars, etc.

There are some flavor texts in the news section of Runewars, right on this homepage. It's not a novel, but it gives some impressions.

However, regarding how much the Terrinoth-theme is supported, I can easily imagine there could be some novels in future – aren't there novels (or comics) to other FFG games? So why not to Runewars?

There are a couple of FFG games that are based on comic books, I think. Dust, for example, started off life as a comic and FFG later made the board game based on it. Arkham Horror, obviously is based on the stories of HP Lovecraft and those who followed after him. I'm not aware of any published comics or novels based on the background info provided by their board games though.

For the record, I do agree that the Terrinoth world is ripe for novels or short comics set in the same world. Other companies seem to have done well for themselves in taking their computer games or what-have-you and turning them into books. It may not work for ALL of FFG's game lines, but Terrinoth and Twilight Imperium in particular hold potential IMHO.
