Witch Lance ... What makes it so good

By linearblade, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

So I'm reading Witch lance, and we are trying to figure out what makes it so good against psykers...

it seems its only ability is" bonus emperors fury" ... and it applies to all creatures. I thought this was supposed to be super duper against witches and psykers...

Can someone explain to me what I am missing from this sub par weapon?

The damage is considered holy, which may be of use against anything that is somehow bound to the daemonic.

And of course, Psykers are often low-agility targets, which may make the fire harder to put out. It's also vitally important to deny them as many actions as possible, so setting them on fire and requiring a WP test before any round's actions is a good first step.

But the only holy damage is the blast on emperors fury right?

It seems to be this is a sub par power weapon 90% of the time, and decent weapon 10% of the time when you score emperors fury... is this the case?

Well, sub par is debateable - after all, it's still a power weapon, not much more expensive than a power sword and only lacking one point of damage and Balanced.

Oh, and something else I've just discovered, though that will probably be a situational benefit at best: It can be thrown.

I coult totally imagine a Crusader using a Witch Lance/Tower Shield combo.

Sounds about right. But at least it you can't hit yourself with it like you can with an Eviscerator.
