OCTGN Deck List Parser

By pateras, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

I want to get good at deck building, and as such I can see posting a lot of deck lists. I found OCTGN last night, which I really enjoyed, but I didn't see a way to export the decks I built there. So I wrote a small tool to parse the deck file into a forum-friendly deck list. If anyone else is interested in using it, you can download it here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?m51zyzfr0yn

That link has the most up to date version, as of 2:15pm on June 19th.

If you have problems, try running the application as an admin.

You just load your .08d file and it spits out a deck list like this:

All you need to run it is .Net 3.5 (which you should already have if you're running OCTGN). To get analysis on cost average, icons, etc., you need to add the set files, via the button in the top right. If a needed set it missing, analysis will be disabled. If a set is moved, you need to re-add it. Adding sets more than once is harmless, but completely unnecessary. The location of the files is stored, just like OCTGN.

If you use this and have a problem or a small feature suggestion, let me know. I'm not going to provide a lot of support, as this is just a small little utility I threw together to solve a problem I had, but if it's something quick and useful, I'll see what I can do.

Also, if something like this already exists (like some way to directly export decks into a friendly format from OCTGN), please let me know.

I hope this helps!

UPDATE:
Count problem fixed. The download link should work, now.

Added Analysis.

The link in this post is the most up to date version.

Remember to extract the files out of the zip file before you run the program.

Set names are now included.

Alphabetized sections.

Added icon strength totals and averages.

The last deck selected is now remembered.

This is awesome! Is there anyway you could easily add stats like the average gold cost of characters or locations or number of each icon you have or average gold on plots? just stuff like that. it can sometimes help you see where you need to make some cuts in your deck. Also I take it this is your deck you have been using against the bara rush deck?

It's definitely not easy, and it's beyond the scope I had envisioned for this project. Unfortunately, that stuff isn't stored in the deck file, so I'll have to allow the user to where the card files are stored. I'll take a look and see what I can do.

Sadly, yes. That's my Stark deck. I'm still at the "Find about 60 cards that I think are good and put them together" stage of deck building maturity. I've only recently started to research more. I gather there's like a 30-15-15 rule? Something like 30 characters, 15 events and attachments, and 15 events? Is there like a guide to building tournament ready decks or something?

General rule of thumb is 30 characters, 15 locations, and 15 other. By no means is this the best best build for every deck or every kind of environment, but it's a decent rule to follow if you're just starting to play the game.

Okay, here are a few things I would change with your deck. I'm not sure how many cards you have, but I would try and make sure I would have put in two or three of the eddards that cancels effects that chooses a single noble. That guy is awesome against Lannister and can be useful against baratheon if they try to use stuff like distinct mastery. I would also put in two more Narrow Seas. The reducing just really speeds up a deck. I'd take out Gates of Winterfell and Bear Island. Bear Island doesn't work well in a deck that isn't running all stark stuff. It just doesn't work most of the time. Gates of Winterfell isn't that good of a card unless you are going to be playing like 40+ characters. I'd use the Catelyn from the Lords of Winter expansion. She gets around the kneel from lannister and she can be a big surprise. She also gets around resets.

As for your events I'd find out which three events work for me and run three copies of that event. I'm guessing its going to be Winter is Coming, Guilty, and Distraction, but that's just me.

Generally you want to run more of something to make sure you get it rather than trying to run less of something to fit in more diversity. I'd try to find what works best for you in the other card types too and just run multiple copies of that card. Although I'm not sure if you have enough cards for it.

I managed to edit the original post. I've removed the info from this post, to avoid confusion.

awesome! and I had the same problem in chrome. If you hit the pasting clipboard it lets you paste text into a popup box. That's how I have to do it.

wow! that was fast! lol thanks for the effort, I know that had to take a bit of work.

It did, but it was fun. I'll find it useful, too. Regardless, you're quite welcome. I appreciate your help, and all the effort you put into your tournament run-downs.

The latest version is now up. I've tested it quite a bit, but it probably wouldn't be a bad idea for someone else to double check the numbers, too.

Sweet deal. I hope the tourney reports were helpful! its the next best thing to videos from the tourney. Which I really think would be cool for gencon! Also, as soon as I click on load deck or add set it stops working. is it my computer only?

Did you extract the files? You can't just run it out of the zip archive.

Yeah I did. have it sitting in a folder on my desktop.

With the Ionic.Zip.CF.dll in the same directory? If so, did this happen before the analysis version?

If you want it resolved quicker, email me at my username @gmail.com. No alerts on the forums mean I don't really check back all that frequently.

Is anyone else having the problem where it crashes when you click one of the buttons? Has anyone used it successfully, for that matter?

Gualdo, or some one else, created deckstatistics in order to see the stats on your OCTGN decks. The link to download it is in the OCTGN thread in the main forums. In it, at the top where each of your decks are lised, you can right click on the row for which ever deck you want and you'll find the options to export to .pdf or .txt. This is fairly simple, and what I use to print out deck lists.

Oh cool. I just checked it out. It's pretty nice. Much more advanced than mine.

Added functionality to show set names.

Added icon strength totals and averages, alphabetized sections, and the last deck loaded will now be remembered. I put a bad link up for a minute there, but it's fixed, now.
