i found that "Gaining or losing icons mid-challenge does not affect the attacking or defending status of that character."in FAQ. so~how about str?If my character loses a military icon in the middle of a military challenge, is still count that character str value?or just treat as 0?

Its strength remains the same. It still counts toward total for determining the winner of the challenge.

The only time the icon status of a character is checked is when it is actually declared as an attacker or a defender. So while you have to have the correct icon to be declared as an attacker or defender, removing that icon after the character is declared does not remove it from the challenge. That's what the FAQ entry is trying to say.

When the challenge resolves, the rules say to add the STR of the attacking characters and compare it to the total STR of the defending characters. It doesn't say anything about the icons. So long as the character is considered an "attacker" or a "defender" when the challenge resolves, it counts its STR in the challenge (unless some other effect stops it).

Gaining or losing icons is about changing who can participate in the various challenge types. It does not allow you to change anything meaningful about that character once it is participating. Icon manipulation is not a sneak attack kind of move.
