Warhammer 40k MMO
Looking good, not the DH type i was hoping for, but good none the less!
I swear I cannot see anything good about this trailer. Lame graphics and a helicopter land speeder mount. It seems I am in a vast minority of those kind of people. But to me this trailer is utter rubbish. I am sorry I feel that way, but this trailer disappointed me so much I cannot express by words.
I will not say anything more.
this does look good in deed i must admit been looking forward to this since rumours appeared and to clarify something fo tthe above poster the land-speeder helicopters are actually ork deffcoptas and a stable part of the 40k lore
It's also a trailer taken from the alpha stages of the game and isn't going to be as polished as the final product. I'm excited as all get out that there's Khornate Berzerkers with chain-axes, bikes, Dreadnoughts, Titans, daemons, and much more.
I believe that THQ and Vigil are giving every ounce of love that they can to the fan base, after having seen what Mythic did to WAR.
I'm still kind of hoping that GW will support a decent Space Marine FPS along the lines of GRAW, but based off their earlier
Space Hulk
game. Draw from things like MW2 and that might just be a winner... By a lot.

oh now! have heart dear friends! i know a few people on this project and they're all huge fans of the source material. it's got another year before any type of release schedule is even planned for it, and let's just say that at this point in development i have it in good faith that it's pretty sweet. i have faith.
Tell you what. Provide biographies of the individuals involved so that I can see that they've consistently produced stonking games in the past and I'll sing the game's glories. I'm not one for faith. Evidence on the other hand, even if circumstantial? Now that I can deal with.

I think people always have unrealistic expectations for anything 40k related because it will never be precisely what they as an individual want. When their favorite army isn't the star of the show and can't single handedly win everything, they become disappointed.
Personally I think it looks awesome. Can't wait to play a Space Marine and shoot some heretics for the Emperor.

Agreed. On the other hand, is it wrong to want more of the people that are producing this material? I submit that it is not wrong and, further, it's one of the best things about fan material. That is, it one-ups the designers (whatever type of game you're talking about) so that they can on-up the fans back. So far the seem to have been doing a good job...

well i was at E3 yesterday and ran to the THQ booth to see if they had anything playable of either Space Marine or Dark Millennium. Sadly it was just the vids. Later, while enjoying a beer with some friend of my friends/co-workers i was bemoaning this fact. one of the devs at vigil (i think, or maybe THQ) was seated nearby and overheard me. him and i got to rapping about our love for all things 40k and how we'd been playing it since we were young-unz. he too wanted to show more of the 40k stuff that THQ/vigil have coming down the pipe, but according to him mass marketing strategies won't happen for a while, especially on the MMO since it's currently in development (and believe me when i say that it takes a lot of time to dev an MMO and get it right). he was very excited about it nonetheless and said that it was going to be an awesome game. just a convo between two fans of 40k. take that as you will.
Just gonna drop a few screenshots here.

Personally I think that looks quite good for Alpha coding.
Good that the guys making it are 40k fans, and Black Templars
seem to be the main Marine chapter.

My arse is still burnt from that complete travesty to WH Fantasy setting I'm pretty **** jaded about the 40k version... still, if it turns out ok I'm prepared to give it a go. Problem is all these fly-by-night game companies (like EA) just want to throw something out there to move some boxes and once thats done, they move on themselves!
yeah WAR was a travesty...beautiful to look at though you must admit and the team worked incredibly hard on it. unfortunately i think they suffered from the "we dont' want it to be like WOW" design philosophy and by doing so they sort of shot themselves in the foot. WOW is a system that (obviously) works and even though i enjoyed certain elements of the WAR design and gameplay, other elements ended up being a bit too far off the mainline and oftentimes redundant or unbalanced. it's still a fairly viable and successful game, but like many other MMOs that don't reach WOW status (in terms of user and profit base) it may end up moving towards a free-to-play model in a couple years. who knows? i am not privy to the discussions that occur in the high, white towers of EA.
but if anything i am still hopeful for THQs 40k games (space marine included).

Umm dude, I am impressed with the graphics, they seem to rival WOW.
Umm dude, the "helicopter Landspeeder" is a Death Kopter for the Ork army... do u know anything about warhammer to be disspointed in this trailer.
... Sorry, I got carried away.
THIS TRAILER IS HOT!!!!!
I hope the game rates up to the trailer let alone my expectations.
The titan skin is AWESOME! I just wish they showed more races, only Space marines, Adepts Mechanicus, Chaos marines, Demons, Guardsman and Orks. We need Eldar and Tau.
The Adept looks Hot with his servo arms and the book, the Tech Priest looks HOT.
I will stop raving now.
If you look around :41 when they're fighting in the valley/hills kind of place, you'll see arcs of blue fire. Eldar are confirmed, and my bet is on shuriken cannons.
That trailer makes me wary, very wary. It looks too much like WOW and WFb in space... if the game it's like that I'm going to play it for 1 month and that's it (Hell, I'll give any 40K a try).
Of course, this is just a very very early version. But it's looking way to cartoony and colourful. If they continue down this road it's very clear that they're going to be catering for the kiddies and there's not going to be much of a 'grim and dark future', but rather a pretty battlezone filled with cutesy orks comical marines... *shudders* Even Firewarrior was dirtier and grittier.
I'm crossing every extremeity I have for this one...
You DO realize the origin of Warcraft and Warhammer 40k... right Meph? Warhammer 40k IS WFB in space... and Warcraft is to Warhammer what the Playstation is to the N64. GW hired the guys at Blizzard to make them a Warhammer video game. The blizzard guys did and then GW said y'know... we dont' like it, we don't want that game tied to our intelectual property and abandoned it... so Blizzard took the game that they had worked so hard on, changed enough of it not to get sued, and put it out as Warcraft, so yes, it's GOING to look like Warcraft, because Warcraft is a rip off of Warhammer (and warhammer was ripped off of D&D, and D&D ripped off of Tolkien, etc, etc).
Now, the graphics look wonderful, and that's to be expected, they look like enlarged/closer up version of DoW, which makes sense since y'now, it's THQ.
Am I alone in hoping that you can pilot a Titan? heh
A lot of people seem to miss two basic principles of MMO design.
1. They MUST be playable by as many people as possible. High res graphics are a no-no.
2. The more realistic something looks graphically the faster it will age and the faster people will complain about how bad it looks 2-3 years down the line.
A stylized, cartoonier look, will last longer from the visual stand point before it starts looking dated. By going this route, you can get away with lower hardware requirements which allow a much broader audience to play your game. WoW found the formula that nobody else did. By targeting the lowest common denominator graphically, you massively expand your possible player base and extend the life of your game. WoW still looks good. The art direction has allowed it to survive without people complaining about how the latest greatest FPS looks so much better. It also runs just fine on 8-10 year old computers.

A lot of people had similar complaints when Warhammer Online was revealed - early shots and footage looked too bright and too shiny...
A couple of years of development passed, and textures were refined and adjusted, and lighting systems were finished that turned the bright, shiny landscape into something altogether gloomier and more foreboding.
Dark Millennium Online is two years away from release. That's a good amount of time for them to finish the look of the game.
Dude, I almost shat.
I mean pinch of salt, it's not due for release for about a year (and MMO's are historically dogged with delay's) so this is far from the final result but even so that was awesome.
Is it really a bad thing to see SMs shooting up things? And titans?
I think not. I liked the trailer.
On the very edge of the galaxy lies the Sargos Sector. For centuries it was rendered uninhabitable and isolated by volatile Warp Storms. Even now, deep within the sector the very fabric of reality is unraveling. Only the ancient Sentinel Devices hold the Warp at bay.
But the ravages of time and meddling of humanity have weakened the Sentinel Devices-and now, the battle for these lost worlds is at hand. Drawn to the conflict, the great races of the galaxy descend upon the Sargos Sector, seeking to preserve reality-or to tear it asunder.
Side with the forces of Order, or the vile hosts of Destruction , in a war that will unlock ancient secrets, reveal dark purposes, and determine the fate of the Sargos Sector. For in this dark millennium, there is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter.

Just realize and remember that this game, at current standing, is in it's pre-alpha stages and that it's very, very subject to change.
Also note that there is a veritable firestorm of discussion amongst the DMO crowds as to whether or not the game should be a two faction or multi-faction MMO. There's always the off-chance that THQ/Vigil will be willing to listen to the fanbase, but since it's GW's IP, they're the ones who ultimately dictate what gets done.
