My Second huge ship experience

By Bort, in X-Wing Epic Play

As much as I love the game I simply don't get near enough time to play. Let alone to play Epic. So.... more than a year after my first epic game I finally had my second.

*EDIT.... ok, having a major failure, but will have to fix later. Can't get the images to show up as images instead of links, making this kinda pointless.

*EDIT 2.... got it working via Google photos, not google drive. Pffft... stupid technology.

Game type 2v2. 300 Points each. Each person had to have a huge ship, and max 6 other ships. Random opponents/partners.

Scum (me) + Empire I

VS

Rebel + Empire II

I don’t have the full lists the opponents played, so will just give it more or less. Should hopefully at least have all the ships correct, but not upgrades.

Scum

IG-88A, B and C. Each with title and Synced Laser Cannons

IG-88D (crew), C-ROC, Corsair Refit, Targeting Battery, Concussion Missiles, Jamming Beam.

Empire (I)

Gozanti, Ion Cannon battery and … (can’t remember loadout)

Star Wings Wing with Vynder, Karsabit and 2x Rho Squadon Pilots with passive sensors a ton of ordnance.

Rebels

CR90, Ion Cannon Battery, Targeting Battery, Perceptive Co-Pilot, Damage Control Team, Sensor Experts, Magva Yarro.

2x E-wings (think Rogue Squadron with Advanced proton torpedoes.)

Empire (II)

Raider, Ordnance tubes, Proton Torpedo, Cluster Missiles, Targeting Battery, Ordnance Team, Bombardment specialists, Boosted Scanners

TIE/LN wing with Howlrunner and 3x Academy Pilots with no upgrades on any.

So we were kinda lazy, everyone just dumped the ships down where they were sitting. This is a team game, but looking at the table you can’t really tell it right.

Oh well, so the C-ROC and Gozanti went down first, both kinda going for centre table. Then the Raider and CR90 went down focussing on the C-ROC. Next goes the E-wings on the far side of the table. Aggressors were placed to have strait lanes going, focussing on the Raider. And Star-wings placed to take on the E-wings and then flank around the CR90. Lastly the TIEs were placed across one of the Aggressors.

Turn 1 after movement.

Turn 1 movement: The E-wings (far top left of screen) turned in towards the middle, and boosting to get away from the Star wings, both armies basically going straight towards the Scum forces. The Star Wings moves forward. Aggressors move and boost forward. (The one at the very bottom of the picture moved, and calculated. That one should have moved further in hind sight). And all the huge ships just slowly creeps forward.

Turn 1 shots: Aggressors takes out one Academy pilot and lose some shields. As the Scum player the plan was to take out the support quickly and then try to focus on the Raider. Raider and Ties starts taking shots on the Aggressors. Turn 1 defence on them was just amazing, in total I lost 1 shield.

Turn 2 after movement.

Turn 2 movement: E-wings keep gunning towards the centre of the table. Star Wings turns to flank the E-wings, but need to slam to get close enough, so not many shots. Buttom of screen Aggressors manoeuvre to flank the Raider. Middle Aggressor moves to block towards the middle of the table effectively blocking the TIE wing. Gozanti turns towards CR90. C-ROC just keeps going forward. Raider turns away from the middle, giving that 180 degree arc a lot of options. And CR90 turns towards CROC.

Turn 2 after shots.

Turn 2 shooting: Another Academy Pilot and Howlrunner destroyed. Raider takes a bunch of shots on the Aggressors, taking out most shields. The last Academy Pilot shrugs off everything that’s thrown at it. (Keep an eye on this little bugger)

Turn 3 partial movement. (All but Raider and CR90 done. Not sure why I took the picture before they moved… but there it is.)

Turn 3 after movement.

Turn 3 movement: 1 E-wings swoops around the back of the CR90 to come join the Scum fight, while the other one blocks the Star Wings breaking up the formation. Aggressors tries to avoid collisions with the Raider, but not leaving themselves with great shots. C-ROC still just slowly moving forward, keeping my shooting angles open. Raider does a 1 straight, getting real close to bumping the one Aggressor. PR90 turns back towards its original heading turning the side arc on the C-ROC.

Turn 3 shooting: Aggressors damaged. No kills. CR90 loses some shields. C-ROC takes dmg and 3 Ion.

Turn 4 after movement:

Toe-pz52vt1VVPj9JwEjqVv5qUjWoPVCoVVV1hb4

Turn 4 movement: E-wing one still following next to CR90 to join the battle. Other E-Wing attempts to get behind the Gozanti. Bottom two Aggressors still trying to avoid collisions with the Raider while trying to get useful shots. Star Wings, Gozanti and C-ROC surrounds the CR90. Raider moves forward slowly, once again very nearly bumping an Aggressor. The CR90 on the other hand zooms forward 3 smashing one Aggressor out the way.

Turn 4 shooting: The topmost E-wing is taken out. The 2 nd E-wing now gets shot by the bumped Aggressor but no dmg is done. Aggressors shoots point blank at the last Academy pilot, but fails to kill it. CR90 takes fire from all sides, losing all shields and taking about 9 hull damage. Aggressors mostly on last legs now. C-ROC takes more damage and 1 Ion.

Turn 5 end of turn. For no specific reason I started taking fotos at end of turn, instead of end of movement like I have been doing so far.

Turn 5 movement: Star Wings and Gozanti now swarming in behind the CR90. Leftmost E-wing closes in on the Aggressor that’s behind the Raider, but in turn has another Aggressor on its tail. And the one little Academy Pilot still sits there in the middle of the battle. C-ROC turns towards the Raider. Raider turns towards the C-ROC. CR90 turns in between them. Looks like we have some huge ship collusions on the way.

Turn 5 shooting: E-wing takes out the first Aggressor. Saturated fire from Aggressors and star-wings takes out the CR90. Academy Pilot still refuses to die, and does 3 damage to the Aggressor. At this point it’s a promotion is promised to him.

Turn 6 during engagement, but not all shots fired.

AZwBdFh_PnkrnOx_g5vKLgeKd9yi2W6_IrKNrNid

Turn 6 movement: E-wing makes an S-loop to get back into the battle, outsmarting the Aggressor that had the exact same plan which now ends up right in front of the E-Wing. Star wings makes wide turns and slams to engage the E-wing and move around the Raider. C-ROC brakes hard (at this point it has double “Crew Shaken” crits, that say if I collide I take 2 more crits. So I really can’t afford to collide with the Raider. Raider banks again, doing a great job of keeping its nose towards the fight.

Turn 6 shooting: E-Wing takes out a 2 nd Aggressor, but at least it gets to shoot on same initiative and take out that annoying little Academy Pilot Ace. Star Wings does some damage on E-Wing. C-ROC starts playing the jam game with the Raider. Raider still able to take out the last Aggressor.

Turn 7 Moved.

pBHUQJ8oZiGAP8lZQSc-fLFaaBMiLzr_mQrhCVxy

Turn 7 movement:

Gozanti turns in towards Raider. Star wings starting to swarm around Raider. E-wing overshoot the Star-wings to engage the C-ROC. Both C-ROC and Raider does a 1 forward, showing off their ace pilot skills in a near impossible miss / overlap of the physical ships.

T2mJOwQ6td5O2MwGoHNYXusDwWdbGHGh0Qmk6fs5

Turn 7 shooting: E-Wing killed, C-ROC Jamming Raider again, C-ROC killed, Raider loses all shields and takes first hull damage.

Turn 7 End of game.

Scum player destroyed. Rebel player destroyed.

Hmmm…. With empire the only survivors on both sides one has to wonder if we weren’t tricked and this was some elaborate empire training mission.

Game took around 4 hours, and ended with a point difference of about 150 points in favor of Scum+Empire team.

Was a fun game.

Once again saw the power of having the C-ROC Jam (action + Jamming cannon) vs the Raider.

And its still scary how many shots the raider can put out, and that 180 arc makes is really unavoidable.
