Inquisitor's Handbook Alternate Ranks

By ironworker, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

Hello All

New to the game and just have a question thats been asked hopefully not to many times. I have been looking through the IHB and I am a bit confused how the alternate ranks work for the Professions. The list of skills and talents are lumped together and I cant understand at what rank you can pick what and how many ranks there are in each. More then likely its right there in the book but I don't seem to see it.

Thanks for any help

An alternate rank is a single rank. All skills and talents associated with the alternate rank become available for purchase upon taking the alternate career rank. The alternate career rank replaces the standard rank(s) of the career when you select it, and once you have spent enough XP to advance ranks you continue progression within the career normally.

For example, the Calixian Xeno-Archiisvt is an alternate rank available only to Adepts at rank 4 or higher. Once you become a Xeno-Archivist that entire list of talents and skills become part of your regular advancement; purchasable from that rank onward. Any talents which fall into the paths not chosen; in this case Inditor or Chirurgeon , are typically unavailable except as Elite Advances with permission of the GM. If one of those said talents or skills is a prerequisite for a choice at a higher rank then it follows the rules sidebar on page 53 of the Inquisitor's Handbook . Hope that helps clear it up some.
