Max is gone as well.

Not surprising. Just based on the RPG restructuring, similar layoffs would happen on the minis side.

It’s so difficult to leave our echo chambers isn’t it. Diddums.

That's assuming he's replaced and this isn't a downsizing.

IIRC Asmodee have been downsizing since 2019. With everything that's been going on this year no reason to expect a change in that particular strategy now.

But it would have been nice to keep one of the lead designers that had been around to have learned from previous mistakes. But it’s the same as in most fields these days, companies see they can replace someone who is knowledgeable and experienced with someone who comes in at a lower pay and overlook the fact that they aren’t as knowledgeable or experienced.

So, this leaves Frank Brooks and Brooks Flugaur Leavitt for possible designers that may be transition over to AMG...

...Or are they both gone as well...?

I think Brook McBrooke and Brooker Brookington are still around, too.

Man the minis have been totally gutted. I can't imagine how these decisions were made.

First Alex, now Max...

Michael Gernes was let go from the Armada team, too. No word yet on Brooks Fluguar-Leavitt, right?

Looks like someone beat me to the punch on Brooks.

As of right now his LinkedIn page shows he’s still there. But then so did Max’s until now and it now shows he was there through November. 🤷‍♂️

Welp. Anyone else expect AMG to intentionally missmanage FFG's Star Wars games, so they can launch their own Star Wars game(s) in their stead...? If they do, you can be sure I won't be giving Asmode any more of my money..

No. Because that leads their corporate bosses looking at downsizing them.

Harsh, but honestly this could be the silver lining.

XWM 2.0 has basically been more of the same development style, just with new factions and new base ship ideas. I mean, they were very cool, but not an overall change in what the game could do.

XWM could really use very brand new ideas. Alternate modes of play. SW fun just because it SW, not because it balances tournament play.

Of course, what I'd like to see, most of you sport-wingers would hate. But honestly, biannual points updates to keep the game "fresh" is a creative black hole.

So how many Brooks are there?!? Ahh now I see how this could have happened.

Transcript from Asmodee top-boss-meeting:

Boss 1: "We need to let someone go, those loosers at Atomic only want two of our old guys"

Boss 2: "Who do we have?"

Boss 3: "What about this Brooks? or is it Brooke guy"?

Boss 2: "Who is he?"

Boss 3: "Honestly I cant tell one from the other, not sure which part of the X-wing game he is working on.."

Boss 1: "Which one?"

Boss 2: "You talking about Brooks or Brooke here"?

Boss 3: "No! which faction of the game! you know Star wars, there is...ahem the Rebels... and... and the Mandalorian he is there too! My kids love that show!"

Boss 1: "Enough! I hate toys in a fantasy world! I need to go back to manage my stock portfolio, you know IMPORTANT STUFF! Alright just fire Brooks then".

Email to FFG HR-team: "You need to let Mr Max Brooks go". HR-team manger is confused..... Max Brooke knocks on the door: "hey guys just going to Starbucks, you want anything? BTW I have this great new idea for the Razor Crest ship ability, it is going to be so cool and a ton of new scum only ilicits". HR-team manager: "Hey Max can you step into my office for a moment"....

Edited by Sciencius

Alternative account for what happened:

FFG HR team manager over the PA system: "X-wing team to my office". "Calling X-wing team". "Could you please all step into my office".

Alex, Max, Frank, Brooks steps into HR team managers office.

FFG HR team manager: "So you guys.... love the game...absolutely love the game... great game"

Alex: "What up! We are kind of busy you know..we are all eager to get the new Narative Play Experience , no more deathmatch, and the new SUPER-EPIC up ruleset and ships ready we are so PUMPED!! Now we are going to get ALL the 1.0 players back into the GAME".

FFG HR team manager:" Yeah...love that absolutely love that...but ahem you know...what I really like about the game is..."

Max: "How we introduced the force? and the charge system, I really take pride in how this worked out".

Frank: "The new Clone wars factions? It is AMAZING some of our best work".

Brooks: "And the variable points, this is just a masterstroke we can keep the game fresh".

FFG HR team manager:"Oh yeah...amazing...so great...love that..absolutely love that...no I was thinking of the dice... love the dice.."

Alex: "The dice?!? what you mean the red dice or the green dice or just the fact that it has 8 sides?"

FFG HR team manager pulls out 4 red dice from the drawer: "Yeah they are so pretty, are they not?".

Max: "I guess....."

Alex: "So...can we get back to work now?"

FFG HR team manager: "ahem..sure..but first could you each take one of these dice and roll it on the desk please?"

Alex, Max, Frank, Brooks looks baffelled...

FFG HR team manager: "go on...go on...roll the dice".

Alex, Max, Frank, Brooks each pick up a red dice..

Alex rolls his first: "A hit" and says "there you go"

Frank rolls his dice: "A blank" and sighs.

Brooks rolls his dice: "A eye" and says "Dammit where are my focus tokens when you need them"

Max rolls his dice: "A crit" and smiles.

FFG HR team manager smiles and takes out his note pad and writes down the results: "Good good...so you can all go back to work now".

One week later.

FFG HR team manager over the PA system: "Will Mr Alex Davey and Max Brooke please come to my office"....

Nothing to do with how the game is designed, I agree we'll hopefully get new ideas because I'm not a fan of the direction of the game, I just don't like you.

Did Max actually get let go or did he leave? He may have decided not to move to Seattle for all we know. It really isn't any of our business but asmodee may have tried to keep him. Again I look forward to seeing what he does next.

I have played games where people were really concerned about who wrote the rules for their faction. I don't want that for x wing. As long as the rules are consistent I'm okay.

TLT would be fine in 2.0

Just make it limited to 1 per list.

Since folks are writing dialogs. . .

CEO: Wow, I just got back from the convention, and XWM is popular!

Devs: You bet!

CEO: There were turbolasers, and shield gates, asteroids and exploded ships for debris. The play area looked amazing and immersive!

Devs: Yeah, the players are pretty creative.

CEO: We don’t make those things?

Devs: Well, we make asteroids, but ours are cardboard.

CEO: In any event, those turbolasers looks pretty sweet in our Death Star Run mission module.

Devs: Actually, that’s fan-made, too.

CEO: And the cooperative campaign??

Devs: Um, we tried to buy that, but the fan who came up with it said “no.”

CEO: Well, I know we make templates and acrylic tokens. Players seem to like those. Some even were personalized with squadron names.

Devs: Yeah, folks love to shop third party vendors for those. We make some, but we give them away as prizes.

CEO: I see. Ah well. In any event, there was quite the ruckus at the FFG counter. Something was popular.

Devs: Totally!! The limited edition repaint was a HUGE success. We only made enough to satisfy 5% of the demand so that folks who got one could feel “special.”

CEO: Bummer that we missed out on 95% of the sales and alienated that party of the community. . .

Devs: I know, but we really need to keep OP players happy. They need a reason to come to conventions, since folks who are eliminated early can still enjoy the experience of playing with other fans of the game, and get a little swag.

CEO: The fans we ignore. The game's fans using fan-made accessories. . .after they are knocked out of OP.

Devs: Soooooo, Aces High was our idea. . . And Epic!! But we hardly ever do anything for Epic. . .like, once every 2 years or so.

CEO: Hmm, let me see. We spend all year making a couple of new space ships, then spend the rest of our man-hours studying the top players and republishing a free PDF. The other source of the game components and play ideas are free fan-made ideas or sold by third party vendors. So, maybe we make about 25% of the revenue that casual folks are willing to spend on our game??

Devs: Er. It's hard to make those other things work in a tournament. But, d id you see that the S-Foils work on the new X-Wings??!!

CEO: Did you see the App we spent 2018's revenue stream on?????????????

Still willing to give AMG a chance.

Good to know you continue to read my thoughts with the myopic view of a one-eyed cataractous possum in the dark.

Cuz never once did I say I wanted anything.

But if I were a non-gamer bean-counter looking down at XWM from a strict point of view of "what could we be making money on?" I'd be pissed about numerous missed opportunities over the course of 8 years to diversify the game and reach a broader audience.

Sure, sure. The diatribe you posted above has nothing to do with your own wants and desire at all. Nope. Not at all. Sure. Sure.

Sure, sure. You didn't have to. The undercurrent runs through pretty much everything you post.

Sure, sure. It's probably a good thing you're not then, all things considered, or X-Wing would likely have never reached a second edition in the first place.
