Hardcells are MASSIVE

By SithLrd88, in Star Wars: Armada

The Hardcell's are gorgeous little ships...and by little, I mean MASSIVE!!!

On the box they look like they're about 1/2 the size of the front of the Munificent. In real life they're just as big as the front of the Munificent.

I've never had an issue with the proportions in Armada, but this just seemed more egregious than others.

Also I forsee that little stand peg snapping off.

Still gorgeous!

Yeah they are chonky bois.

RIP pegs. Wish they learned to use something besides those flimsy pegs, but at least this gives me an excuse to learn to magnetize

I went to magnets on those types of bases some time ago. I highly recommend it. KJ's Magnetics is dirt cheap: https://www.kjmagnetics.com/products.asp?cat=1

Interesting. Do you cut the peg off the ship and then glue magnets to the ship and stand? What process do you use?

Following for info. I’m very curious how this would work too. I already broke a peg on a hard cell

I had a CR90 break off it's peg so this might work for that as well.

Exactly that. Just a simple snip and glue.

Terrific, thanks. Seriously considering this.

Which size is appropriate for the stands?

Yep. A CR90, a Neb b and two Raiders for me.

Take the top off the peg and super glue the magnet on.

Wait for it to dry, then TRIPLE check that you are gluing the magnet to the ship in the right polarity or...

...well, I don't know how to finish that sentence but the process will involve tears.

And while I have had a magnet fall off a ship. I just glued it back on and Bob's my uncle

Three positives.

1) The whole thing is far less prone to breakages after this.

2) It's easier to remove the ship from the stand for storage/transport if that's your thing.

3) If you ever have a ship hyperspace jump away, you are now able to do a cool enactment of it 😁 .

I bought 2 lots (from eBay). One was 1mm diameter X 1mm thick. The other was 2mm diameter X 1mm thick.

I found the 2mm diameter to be just about perfect.

In inches I think that equates to 1/16th diameter X 1/32nd thickness.

Thank you very much!

The only additional check I think you should do is, when you do your 2nd and subsequent sets of magnets, use the existing stand to decide polarity for them. That way you can use any stand with any ship.

Yeah, that's a good one!

Also, also, the one time I would advise doing the ship first is with Raiders. Just because if you do mess that one up...heaven help you getting that magnet back out!

@Flengin three positives with only two magnets? not sure I trust you

Yes. Always do that check. It ensures the entire collection has interchangeable flight stands.

I know it seems dodgy, but I was using Star Wars physics.

So it's all good.
