Jim Culver, Sweet Harmony, and Museum Haunted

By Dunwich Horror, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

In this weekend's game, we faced a situation we couldn't quite agree upon.

Jim Culver had passed his individual Personal Story, so that "Sweet Harmony" was in play ("Each time an UNDEAD monster appears in Arkham, Jim instead immediately claims it as a monster trophy").

Then, in the Mythos phase, "Museum Haunted" was revealed: "Collect up to 2 Ghosts (...) Place them in the Miskatonic U. streets. Investigators who destroy one of these Ghosts before the end of next turn may draw one Exhibit Item.(...)."

Since Ghosts are Undead monsters, Jim Culver immediately claims them with his "Sweet Harmony" as soon as they appear on the board.

Our question was: Does he get the Exhibit Item by simply claiming them with his special ability, even without a fight, ie. without destroying them? Does his claiming count as "destroying" the monsters since they are removed from the board?

Thank you!

There's no official ruling, but I'd say yes (since Jim sucks) ;')

I'd say no, because claiming a monster as a trophy and defeating it aren't codependent. There are encounters where you can draw a monster from the cup and obtain it as a trophy, but "defeating" effects like Endless, Mi-Go's Unique Item, or Yig's Anger won't take effect.

That's true. I'm inclined to change my mind now.

You mean on everything? gran_risa.gif

Yes, he means on everything. In fact, he's sending the other half of a friendship locket to Kroen as we speak.

What the?! How can you say those kinds of things while I'm away on vacation and can't defend myself ;') Although I have been monitoring a bit. I see not-Kroen is selling his stuff. Huh.
