Fusing Obstacles?

How, or why would you fuse Obstacles?

Dropped debris cloud (rigged cargo chute) maybe? Except Delayed Fuses doesn't work with those....

My guess, it has something to do with Epic play or something up coming.

Future proofing.

For the why.... a fused obstacle would prevent Seismic Charge from working, right? It goes off, you remove the fuse instead of the obstacle and because the obstacle wasn't removed the other part of the Seismic Charge effect doesn't happen and so no one takes any damage, but the Seismic Charge is still wasted.

The how, of course, is the problematic part. Because there's currently no way to do it.

Could be interesting to see if this was future proofing for a reason though...

Incorrect.

Each ship and remote at range 0–1 of the obstacle suffers 1 [hit] damage. Then remove that obstacle

The damage happens first, and separately from the obstacle removal. Keeping it in play doesn't prevent the damage. All it seems to do at the moment, is allow you to detonate a Seismic charge, and not remove the obstacle so it can be detonated again.

Note, this may also prevent the removal of obstacles after a Huge ship overlaps it, likely resulting in another overlap, depending on placement.

My suspicion is they're planning something like the chaff countermeasure that's in Squadrons and also the old X-Wing / TIE Fighter PC games. The way it functions in those games is essentially that it ejects a cloud of stuff behind your ship which lasts for a few seconds and destroys missiles that hit it. In tabletop X-Wing it would make sense for it to be an obstacle which is deployed like Rigged Cargo or Spare Parts and disappears after a round or two.
