This may seem like a stupid question, but when the description of these two statistics reads 'choose and discards half of his items and half of his Clue tokens (rounded down)' does this only mean that the player discards his common and unique items, or does it also include his spells, skills etc?

Items= spells, commons, uniques, exhibit items (I'm pretty sure about this one, not 100%, but pretty sure), rail pass, deputy's revolver, and patrol wagon (it doesn't include allies, skills, or any other special condition card).

wait a minute. if the railpass is an item... you can trade a railpass with another investigator ? How come did I never occur to me ?? (not that it will truly change the games ::-)
Rail Pass has recently been clarified to be an item.
Thank you for the answer. This opens the possibility that I buy them at the train station encounters when they are proposed :-)

Me too actually. Ordinarily I don't even have the money to get one. When I do, I usually go ahead and buy it because they're so rare that I feel like I should frame it on my wall. Now, I might actually make use of them!
