NYC Regional Results

By BrooklynMike, in CoC Organized Play

Congratulations to TheProfessor on a hard won victory in the NYC Call of Cthulhu Regionals. We all had a great time, and really enjoyed playing, meeting each other, and spending a day of horror and madness. Can't wait for the next event.

Awesome job Professor!

Can we get some details? Number of players, types of decks, exciting plays/moments, session reports... anything? :)

I went with a Hastur deck. Here is the list:

# Name Sub-name cost
2 Long-Dead Prince Ancient Royalty 1
3 Magah Bird 1
3 The Seventy Steps Of Light Slumber 1
2 Agoraphobia 2
2 Blind Submission 2
3 Byakhee Attack 2
1 Giant Albino Penguin Antarctic Monstrosity 2
3 Power Drain 2
3 The Cavern of Flame Gateway to the Dreamlands 2
3 The Enchanted Wood 2
3 Victoria Glasser The Society Hostess 2
3 Victoria's Protégé 2
2 Ward Phillips Obsessed Recluse 2
2 Bearer of the Yellow Sign 3
1 Descendant of Eibon Master of the Black Arts 3
2 Guardian Pillar 3
2 Infernal Obsession 3
2 Keeper of Dreams Mind Breaker 3
3 Victoria's Loft 3
3 Moon-Beast Captain 4
2 The Thing Behind You Turn around! 5

I'm not going to say this is an optimal deck - after the tournament I've thought of things I might do to improve it. Like more Descendant of Eibon's, for example!

Fortunately for me I didn't get paired up against Johnny Shoes who was running Agency Groundskeeper and Torch the Joint! My Dreamlands locations worked quite well because I always had more of them than my opponents.

My mot difficult rounds were against Cthulhu decks... Whenever Ravager from the Deep showed up, it seemed like I could not draw any answers (and I had a bunch of them!)

In the final round I had to face my son. He was running a Yog deck built around Speak to the Dead. Even though he had an easier time against character heavy decks than I did, his deck did not work as well against mine. I finished 2-1 in the championship match.
