Pattern analyser and Obstacles - clarification

By topacesteve, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Ηello, can we make a clarification if any of the obstacles (derbris, asteroids, gas cloud) can STOP , the Pattern Analyser from giving the action?

what do you mean? why would any obstacles prevent pattern analyzer from triggering? the perform action step has nothing to do with pattern analyzer. the perform actions step happens after a ship executes its maneuver during its activation.

As Meffo notes, skipping your perform action step does not affect your ability to perform actions that are granted by card abilities. The action from Pattern Analyzer is an additional action, distinct from your Perform Action step; indeed, if you have a way to ignore or remove stress (e.g. Nien Nunb T-70) you can perform two actions when you execute a red maneuver with Pattern Analyzer.

Nope, obstacles don't stop it.

If Gas Cloud or Asteroid, you skip your normal action, but there's nothing getting in the way of the Pattern Analyzer's bonus action. Obstacles don't prevent you from fully executing a maneuver.

If Debris Cloud, the stress from Debris is gained *after* the "Check Pilot Stress" step, but Pattern Analyzer happens *before* that step, so you'd still get the action. You'd be double-stressed afterwards, due to the combo of red move and debris cloud, but you'd have gotten an action this turn.

I see this happen quite alot, where people think the perform action step, is linked to all other actions. So ill post this.

RR pg 3:
Activation Phase
Step 3 - Perform Action: The ship may perform one action

  • When a ship is instructed to perform an action , the ship can perform a Standard action , which includes actions listed in that ship’s action bar, as well as abilities that have the “ A ction : ” header on that ship’s condition, damage, ship, or upgrade cards.
  • There is no maximum limit to the number of actions a ship can perform over the course of a round, but a ship cannot perform the same action more than Step once during a single round, or perform an action it has failed this round.

A ship may perform an action when it is instructed to do so. The ONLY thing the 'Perform Action' step does, is instructs the ship that it may perform an action. That's it.
