A little advice about Hope and Destroying Hop

By Mistervimes, in Game Masters

Core philosophy: For me one of core themes of SW is destroying hope and then finding a new hope.

The Situation: The game takes place in 14 ABY (about nine years after "The Mandalorian") and my ragtag group acquired a derelict Star Destroyer for their Hutt Patron. This started a standoff between the Hutt, three Imperial Remnant factions, and Darth Momin (his helmet is controlling new body). Momin a, the Hutt, and one Imperial Faction joined forces to drive off the other two factions. The Hutt wants to own the Star Destroyer, Momin wants the ship to acquire and transport Khyber from Ilum, and the Imperial faction just wants the star charts and data on the SD. The factions worked together to get the SD manned and off to Ilum they went.

Once on Ilum, the heroes (in search of a plant only found in the crystal caves) runs afoul of a Sith (the race) and some Nogrhi. The Sith gives them four hours to get off the planet. Momin refuses and told the heroes to solve it.

My plan: When the four hours is up the Sith (while the heroes, Momin, and the work crews are planetside) plans to attack the SD the heroes need to return home and the strand them on Ilum.

The question: How do we find a new hope? I don't want to have someone rescue them and, if they let the clock run out, they're stranded. How do we get them off the planet and make it have high stakes?

Who is Darth Momin ?

He's from the Canon Vader comics. He lives on in a mask and considers himself an "artist" (of the macabre variety, like cat guts).

He died when the Jedi stopped him from firing his masterpiece, a superweapon of sorts, and his spirit was trapped in a mask. Now he possesses people who don the mask (a Mustafarian, a stormtrooper, almost Vader, etc).

Maybe they find a Jedi ship secreted away somewhere, but they discover that the crevasse is slowly closing, so they have to affect repairs and get it airborne before they are sealed under the ice.

Maybe there's some other faction on the planet, and the PCs have to steal their ship before they leave.

Thanks. I'd parsed it as Darth Moomin and assumed it was an original Sith lord.

Thanks. I haven't read Darth Vador comics. I don't even know if they were published in France.

I think that a 'classic' move would be to boldly steal a Sith ship from their base while they are away attacking the Star Destroyer. The Sith leader wouldn't expect it and it's probably their only way out. In true villainous form, you can imagine the outrage of that leader when he finds out what happened!

Yeah. Ilum used to be a major Jedi training world so there's bound to be some Jedi artifacts . . . including some out of date clone war era space ships lying around. They won't be in working condition but your PC"s have a good mechanic.

Right?

Ilum is also a prime source for Kyber crystals so there's bound to be groups of pilgrims, force sensitive students, and even the occasional unscrupulous entrepreneurial smuggler bound to stop by to get their hands on these valuable gems.

That's what I've got off the top of my head.

Thanks for all the great ideas.

My favorite is when Vader stuck Momin's helmet on a Mustafar Lava Flea.

Don't you dare destroy hops.... we need them for brewing certain types of alc*h*l!!!

Update: Thanks for the advice. Their prize (the vintage Star Destroyer) was hit by the Sith and started its slow and destructive re-entry. As expected, the characters in debt to the Hutt were completely devastated. But they quickly rallied and the pilot called the SD and talked the ragtag crew into piloting the ship into a slower decaying orbit. Momin threw a fit and killed all of his attendants and then highjacked the body of the Nemesis level Imperial Remnant NPC. The heroes did some research and found an abandoned Jedi Temple (thanks Mark Caliber ) and found some old republic ships that could be used to shuttle down the majority of the crew. For one of the ships I used a Dynamic Light Freighter from KOTOR. As expected, my enter group cheered out of play that I'd used a ship they loved from a game they all played.

The clock is ticking and they plan to limp the SD back to their headquarters with the antique starships as a bonus gift to their Hutt benefactor.

I appreciate all the help. It was a great session.
