FO hit me up with your best changes!

By Archangelspiv, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I haven’t flown this yet, not a fan of TTS and the first time I can fly face to face is tonight. Pretty much Xi locks either Kylo or Vonreg and then coordinates where he pleases. I’m not sold on Terry the Toaster, but I’m not sure where to spend the points. I’m not used to FO support at all....

Here it is anyway-

New Squadron

(55) Major Vonreg [TIE/ba Interceptor]
(2) Daredevil
(5) Pattern Analyzer
Points: 62

(76) Kylo Ren [TIE/vn Silencer]
Points: 76

(43) Commander Malarus [Xi-class Light Shuttle]
(6) Tactical Officer
(1) Biohexacrypt Codes
Points: 50

Total points: 188

what would you do? You can’t shoot the hostage....

I should add I want to keep the Xi cheap as a deterrent, try and mess a bit with target priorities.

Add Hate on Kylo and take the 9 pt bid.

Alternately, I do enjoy using instinctive aim and chucking a Plasma at someone which still leaves a 3 pt bid, but that may not be worth the squeeze.

Hi there.

I don't like Malarus in combination with asses because of the strain token, so I would go with Gideon. You can take Terrex, but I love Pyre so I would prefer him. I want the enemy to target the Xi first, so with reroll and Focus Gideon can be really tanky and go with his medium base for some blocks.

When you fly Kylo and Vonreg, then you can equip Mag Pulse on Vonreg to trigger the dark side and give the enemy two stress token, what triggers Pyre on Gideon.

So a good option can be something like this:

Gideons Escort

(40) Gideon Hask [Xi-class Light Shuttle]
(5) Commander Pyre
(2) Proud Tradition
Points: 47

(76) Kylo Ren [TIE/vn Silencer]
(3) Brilliant Evasion
(4) Advanced Optics
Points: 83

(55) Major Vonreg [TIE/ba Interceptor]
(6) Mag-Pulse Warheads
(6) Outmaneuver
Points: 67

Total points: 197

You can surely change Brilliant Evasion for more bid.

Greetings

Kylo Ren (76)
Adv. Proton Torpedoes (5)
Proton Rockets (6)

Major Vonreg (55)
Daredevil (2)

First Order Courier (38)
Automated Target Priority (1)
Agent Terex (6)
Captain Phasma (5)
Total: 194

Vonreg can lock and DD and get a calc from terex. With terex, Vonreg essentially has the force for three rounds of engagement. Kylo has Fenn like 5 dice attacks. Great burst damage to just wipe ships off the board. With just two aces, you want ships gone fast, and burst damage does that.

Whichever Xi you use in this list, I would not use Gideon. His text will not help Kylo or Vonreg, because they’re always going to be rolling 3 or more attack dice, unless Vonreg takes a Deplete token to use his ability... but even then, you’re trading Deplete for Strain, which you said you don’t like in combination with aces. I suppose Gideon can help himself, sure... but I think you’re better off using him alongside at least a couple of other guys who can benefit from his ability.

This was my first attempt at using Gideon, and I absolutely loved it...

Hask, Kylo, Static, Muse

(30) "Muse" [TIE/fo Fighter]
(1) Deadeye Shot
Points: 31

(33) "Static" [TIE/fo Fighter]
(1) Deadeye Shot
Points: 34

(40) Gideon Hask [Xi-class Light Shuttle]
(6) Tactical Officer
(6) Agent Terex
(1) Biohexacrypt Codes
Points: 53

(76) Kylo Ren [TIE/vn Silencer]
(1) Instinctive Aim
(5) Adv. Proton Torpedoes
Points: 82

Total points: 200

Gideon locks Static on round one, to enable a Coordinated Lock/Focus at the appropriate moment. This (hopefully) can set Static up to use his (Gideon-enhanced) ability on a damaged target for three auto-criticals, which can often just eliminate a target early in the game. After that, Kylo does Kylo stuff, and with Tactical Officer enabling white Coordinates, and Gideon enhancing your firepower, you have a pretty strong squad. The TIEs will die eventually, but they can contribute pretty well, and if the enemy is shooting them, he’s not shooting Kylo or Gideon.

I've never flown FO before but since my only tabletop opponent during lockdown is my teenage son I've given him a break from my usual Republic/Resistance lists and flown the following.

The idea is Malarus supports, Tavson coordinates (and wails on you with four dice) and the two BOs dance around with as many tokens as possible. It's a lot of fun to fly!

Take the Strain

(43) Commander Malarus [Xi-class Light Shuttle]
(6) Agent Terex
Points: 49

(64) Lieutenant Tavson [Upsilon-class Shuttle]
(1) Biohexacrypt Codes
Points: 65

(41) First Order Provocateur [TIE/ba Interceptor]
(2) Daredevil
Points: 43

I don’t know that you want two crew carriers here. Maybe. I think you’re better off with another fighter craft in Malarus’s spot (or two, or one really good one, like a loaded Quickdraw, if you drop Tavson instead). Could work, though.

After a few games I came up with this:

(38) First Order Courier [Xi-class Light Shuttle]
(5) Commander Pyre
(6) Agent Terex
(1) Automated Target Priority
Points: 50

(76) Kylo Ren [TIE/vn Silencer]
(4) Advanced Optics
Points: 80

(55) Major Vonreg [TIE/ba Interceptor]
(6) Mag-Pulse Warheads
(6) Outmaneuver

Ermias- Having just picked up a Xi-Class two days ago, I flew your most recent list (above) last night against another three ship list of similar skill- Jendon/Vader/Whisper. The pilot I flew against wasn't very familiar with his own ships and I think that helped me. I gave him first action with my meager 1(199) point bid to his 0(200). The only change to your list I made was to upgrade First Order Courier to Gideon Hask, but I don't think it mattered as I never had achance to use his ability or Pyre's for that matter... we started too slowly for the stress actions to come into play. Vonreg did 90% of the work... He was use his Fine-Tuned Thrusters a few times to take a Strain and then was able to get a hit in on Whisper with Mag-Pulse Warheads and Jam and Deplete him, which meant Whisper couldn't recloak at the End Step due to not having an Evade token thanks to the Jam I put on it. IT was down hill from there for him as I swooped around to take out Jendon with a few Outmaneuver shots. I think only Kylo lost a shield due to a coordinated boost and a millimeter clip of an asteroid from a bank 3 maneuver... otherwise, it was not much of a challenge...

I think I would change out Pyre and try Malarus for the same point total. See where it goes...

Thanks for the list! It was fun to try First Order Aces for the first time...

Also consider Extreme Maneuvers Kylo, being able to token>1 hard boost gives you a hilarious amount of options when maneuvering
