Sloane is not broken, underpriced, or OP and doesn't "punish" players for playing the game.

We also can't forget the fact that the only version of Sloane swarm to really make a splash long term requires a relatively rare extended only ship due to the unique strengths spammed Aggressor ties bring to Sloane, which makes it a harder buy in, and while it is fiercely powerful in that format, extended players may be less likely to jump ship than Hyperspace players, who are likely a player demographic that is far more mercenary.

Extended is a strange format as it paradoxically is both far more cutthroat in terms of list power and preformance, and more casual due to the majority of serious competitive players gravitating towards Hyperspace. Month by month you see a lot of uhhh.... interesting lists in the top 20 lists of Extended that clearly are not an attempt to fly the best list possible but instead are more... accomplishment and faction based. Obviously its not a total clown fiesta but even if a combo became meta-dominant in extended it might just have a reduced impact overall due to the nature of the mode.

Yeah this is a very odd take. Hyperspace is usually casual players trying to hide from the serious lists you get in Extended.

RACsloane also made a splash and is easily available. Maybe not quite as good, but who is counting at >40% conversion rate?

With the Ints? I was curious about this one. Wondered how much that conversion rate was influenced by sample size.

The reroll alone is great for the Alpha's, and that RAC is a beast, but the little fighters do just pop and it's only a matter of time on RAC. Felt like it was a thing that very much leaned on piloting.... But I don't know.

The % is for a mix if i recall correctly, just all versions with RAC+sloane.

By the way, rac sloane is imo the most unfun to play against. The combination of Vader with the stress means that destroying a ship nets you a damage. Dauntless means that can't be prevented by a block.

A front arc locked sloane carrier is just there for Sloane. A 17hp ship with a turret and unblockable actions will dish out a lot of extra.

So the rac version is a huge accelerator in both directions

RAC Sloane works with either 4 TIEs or 3 Intys. I think the 4 TIEs may better as you compromise less on the RAC loadout but it’s close. It’s a very calculated list which makes it very hard for the opponent to get enough points within a time limit.

Sloane Feroph with Aggressors is a very strong list that takes more risks by pressures opponents to destruction more often.

My original YOLO Swarm is the most ‘fun’ and aggressive list (Reaper, 2 Intys, 4 TIEs) but isn’t as strong as the other two overall.

Currently I’m playing my ‘barrel o TIEs’ squad which is Sloane with 6 different TIE models I the squad. It started out as a meme but I think it’s probably actually good and better than YOLO. For cold-blooded players I’d still go Aggressors or RAC.

I really enjoy Sloane and I think people fear her too much, but I do expect her to be like 12pts in December.

Then maybe its a very local experience for me! I couldn't find any serious non-HS tournaments in my local area back when I was still playing physically. Good to know I suppose!

Not challenging off the cuff, just generalizations like this bother me without some hard data. 😎🍺

My experience may be a bit atypical, given that I started right about the time the pandemic put us all on lockdown, but it’s basically me and one other guy in my Armada group playing X-Wing on TTS right now, and we don’t have a lot of interest in Hyperspace. Like, one of the cool things about X-Wing is the dozens of ships from which we can choose. Why limit the pool?

All the HS players I know are the same people as all the Extended players I know.

Some of them prefer the streamlining of HS for competitive play, some are not fussed, some like all the toys. Some are all casual in approach, some are not, none are purely competition focussed.

One thing they all have in common, they like playing X Wing.

Except maybe one guy, who never seems happy. But who am I to judge... he still plays it and I have seen him laugh. Possibly more than once.
