LoW Eddard

By schrecklich, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

"While Eddard Stark is defending, lower the attacking player's claim to 0."

Am I right in applying reasoning similar to that given by ktom in this thread to conclude that other claim modifiers are applied at the same time as Eddard's ability and so are not set to zero? If that's the case, wouldn't the card have been more clear if it said something like "the claim value on the attacking player's plot card is 0?" If it's not the case, what is the alternate interpretation?

This also seems to be what FFG's LoW news article seems to imply:

"If you're on the opposite side of the board of a standing Ned Stark, unless you've got something to kill or kneel him, or raise the claim of your challenge , you can pretty much write off any military or power challenges you might have been planning."

Jeko

That's not the way I read it at all.

The way I read this, when I go to see what my claim is, I add up my plot claim and all modifiers. Eddard is a modifier that says the claim is 0, and so it is. No matter how I try to change that, as long as Eddard is defending, the claim will be 0.

I did notice the line in the article though...

BTW, do you remember if the same happened with Fury of the Dragon and other STR modifiers?

I read it the same as DJ26 despite the article that seems to imply otherwise.

I asked about this some time ago: Fury of the Dragon

Thanks Rogue30. I couldn't find the thread even though I read it in the past.

This Eddard is a reprint. In the past, he could be overcome with claim modifiers. And yes, it is the same reason as Blockade: all modifiers are added in at the same time. Eddard's "to 0" effect would be added in at the same time as an "increase by 1" effect, so the "increase by 1" isn't part of the claim that Eddard counters at the time Eddard is applied.

So if I play blockade and my opponent have a +1 gold producing location he reveives 1 gold? And if it's summer how much will he receive?

Yes, and two with summer. Click on the link in my original post for all the gory details.
