How to trigger Counterstrike more easily

By FelixFenix, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

I am trying to and improve my character’s ability to trigger Counterstrike more often.

So, what other talents or actions can help a Shien Expert trigger Counterstrike more easily? I know Defensive Stance, Defensive Circle, Defensive Training, Feint, Dodge. Did I left out any one?

The Ebb/Flow power comes to mind.

🤦‍♂️ Totally forgot about the Force Powers: Ebb/Flow and Sense. Thanks micheldebruyn 👍

Also equipment! getting your defence up will help a lot, so some robes and a lightfoil hilt lightsaber in your off hand for a melee defence of 3, doesn’t even need a crystal in it to get the benefit just a training emitter. just because you’re holding a second weapon doesn’t mean you have to attack with it, you only deal with two weapon combat rules when trying to hit with both! There’s also the guard shoot and a crystal that will give you ranks in deflective and defensive, both are more expensive options though

Even better is a robe and cortosis shield with deflective 2 and defensive 2, works really well with Sense defence upgrade and the other talents you mentioned. 3 setback and 2 upgrades to all attacks against you with only the commitment of a single force dice is awesome.

Another, costly, option is to branch into Hermit and get the animal bond, Menace, and Harass talents, lots of fun if you enjoy having a pet.

If you don’t mind going a little dark the Wardens Baleful Gaze is an absolutely fantastic way to really upgrade an opponent’s check, potentially 5 times with a single destiny pool point flip and enough ranks in coercion.

Outside Force and Destiny there’s a talent called Coordinated Dodge, it upgrades the difficulty of checks against you by your ranks in coordination.

Lorrdian Gemstone gives you boosts to ranged and melee defense via Deflection and Defensive upgrades.

Side step, disruptive strike, Vibro Vambrace, Shield Generator belt.

Was there a rider on Parry/Reflect that if it cancelled all damage it did not count as a hit?

I do not see one in the full-text description for Parry in FaD rulebook.

Nope. Even with damage that is just entirely negated outright from the target's Soak, a successful attack is still considered a hit for purposes of triggering weapon qualities. The one exception is triggering a crit, which requires that the attack not only hit but deals at least one point of damage to the target.
