Possible new player question

By ScummyRebel, in Star Wars: Armada

With the upgrade card box coming, is there any reason to pick up a standard standalone ship if it came in the core set (aside from “hey I want multiples”)? Or is two core sets if they’re on a solid price a great way to go?

Same question for things like chimaera vs old ISD.

Not 100% but I don’t think the Chimera has the card base for ISD 1+2 stand.

No real reason now (unless you really really want mini American size, or the upgrade pack fails in some other way.)

And the above point about the Chimaera is right, as well as the fact you can’t get Bail, Pryce or SAd in the lack. There’s always the chance they become legal and errata’d down the road.

This is correct. You would need an ISD to get the 1/2 and a Chimaera for the Kuat/Cymoon.

Part of the purpose for the Upgrade Card Pack is to alleviate needing to buy specific expansions just for the upgrade cards and not the ships.

Thanks for the clarification - one of my gaming friends sprung on a sale he found and while I missed it, I am eyeing the possibility of a late November sale.

It is almost guaranteed to be super casual because we aren’t going to hunt out of print models at extreme prices, but the not needing to worry about where a commander or an upgrade comes from helps a ton. (I play primarily xwing 2.0 so I am used to full size upgrades :) ) - I may just borrow his other half since he bought a little of both? But there are some ships that just speak to me more than him (like Chimera because Thrawn).
