No love for Quickbuild format ?

never played it. is it good?

Our local store has been having events once a month, and alternates between hyperspace and extended.

Either format is fine, although I probably slightly prefer extended.

Option 5.

Another vote for option 5. But it's almost a 2. Most of my fun jank is extended only, in hyperspace I'm left with efficiency lists.

Extended only.

I have shifted from 5 to 4.

Hangarbay!

I wish that was more popular. Whether you choose your own or your opponents list, it's just so much better because you have to take responsibility for the matchup, too. That mitigates one of the biggest problems of xwing, because bad matchups can easily turn an otherwise awesome game into a 75min slog fest.

Hyperspace is the better competitive format because it is better balanced. However, it also more heavily emphasises a certain playstyle/listtype. And if that is something you don't like then you're kinda stuck with extended.

Option 5

While i appreciate the balance of Hyperspace, i prefer Extended because of the options allowed in list building.

Option 2. My favorite ship is the Scum Starviper and it's never even seen the light of Hyperspace!

I'm going to go for option 4. While I have yet to play this game against an actual opponent (thank you, Fly Casual), when I do I want to play in Fort Hyperspace at least until I feel ready to face more jank. I'm not opposed to Extended, and sometimes I feel my creativity is a little stifled in HS when theorycrafting list ideas, but I'd much rather have to get blooded in efficiency games rather than having to worry about the aforementioned jank while I'm still trying to remember what I'm supposed to do next.

Uhm, it was in Hyperspace until january update this year, despite not being a 2.0 reprint.

That said, it isn't in Hyperspace now.

Option 4 is my preference. That said I have never turned down the opportunity to play epic.

I like how hyperspace removes some of the auto includes. Talents like crack shot are just auto include for too many lists. Removing certain pilots and upgrades can actually create more variety.

Best format is Heroes of the Aturi Cluster and other campaigns.

Next comes large, epic games.

Then multiple player games like Aces High.

And then 'normal' 200pt games. I prefer extended to Hyperspace, but only by a bit.

(Such a restricted list @Greedo_Sharpshooter , really! Play some real X-wing games - there is so much fun you're missing out on!)

Nice! sadly i dont get my ships to the tables very often so pretty much play 200pt games of extended and occasionally hyperspace.

I mainly play extended but that’s mostly because we get to play with all our toys that way. Occasionally I play hyperspace.

I’d really like epic more, if I got the play time to do it. It takes a lot of extra planning for us, so it becomes a challenge in that sense.

Extended. All the toys.

1 & 6

I'll only play extended when I have no other choice for like an event. It's for got garbage balance and unless your playing an S-tier pile you pretty much lose before you setup on the table. I've also noticed that I prefer playing with Hyperspace players more because they're not as likely to be a sour experience as extended players are.

I've been playing since wave 2 of first edition. I went to a extended event a bit before covid and despite getting a surprise 3rd place for a list I've never tried before, I had a pretty miserable time really. Round one had a close game against straight FO Aces down to the last turn and with a unlucky roll went from a win to a loss. Dude I was playing screamed his elation so loud I was afraid for the glass in the windows. Then he tried to tell me why my list was so bad? After he almost lost to it? 🤔

And then round two I went from playing a salty Victor, of all things, to some poor chap who didn't have the greatest list, ironically it was 6-tex (5? Can't remember) before it was good. So again, not a fun game because I mostly won in the list building phase. But gosh darn it his list was cool (still annoying) before it was popular and I cheer for that type of thing. So it sucked that we couldn't play a great game as the balance hadn't quite been worked out for that match.

Next game I don't even remember, 'nuff said, last round was a mirror match. And the really stupid thing? The mirror match was my favorite one that day on balance and player to play against. But the balance side was only because of the mirror, and the player was a guy I've played with for years so he had that anyway lol.

But every. Single. Time. I sit down to a Hyperspace game? Matches are closer, people are less big headed. Mystery of life I guess.

Sounds like a local thing, or just coincidence.

The local players for me are mostly chill, the one guy who gets a little bit too into it and takes losing hard plays Resistance. We all play both formats, but most prefer extended. We play a lot of jank and experimental lists.

Wise. Extended gets a bit trigger happy and it's easy to end up with a game that turns entirely on someone not expecting a sudden cascade of horrifying nonsense.

I like that kind of thing but I always try to be 100% clear on what my opponent needs to look out for. Whipping out a secret surprise jank gank is not at all satisfying. Attempting to coordinate it against someone doing their best to counter it, is where the fun begins.

But it takes some good experience to be able to keep track of both your own and your opponents options.

Despite having illegal build for standard for few ships , If you want a quick game without thinking yes !

Given the current Covid situation and I just can’t into TTS games, my answer is-

Yes.

I like Hyperspace and Extended. HS makes you think a lot about squad building, not only what’s in your list, but what are you likely to face. Extended let’s me bring all the toys. I find them both fun for different reasons.
