I consider myself a man of the world after 30+ years rp'ing...but I'm feeling a bit stupid now.

Some of the techniques etc have a 'Double Ring' value eg Page 175, Breath of Wind Style: "...resist with a TN 3 Fitness check (Earth 4, Fire 1) or suffer..." so is this the max ring value that a PC/NPC or something else?

I'm good on everything else!!!!

Yeah, that one foxed me as well, initially.

The TN X (Ring 1 Y, Ring 2 Z)
notation is used to indicated that the The TN is adjusted for those specific rings as they have certain affinity.
I.e.
'TN 3 Fitness check (Earth 4, Fire 1)'

The fire stances inherent will and gusto makes it easier to resist the effect, where as the groundedness of the earth stance leans into the effect making it harder to resist.
