Arkham Heroes or Pulp Horror

By Feonor, in Fan Creations

H.P. Lovecraft was the undisputed master of gothic or cosmic horror. Many of his contemporaries, such as Edgar Rice Burroughs, Robert E. Howard, August Derleth, borrowed from his work directly or indirectly. However, many of his contemporaries mixed heroes in with the cosmic darkness. These writers created the very concept of "Pulp Hero" along with "Pulp Horror". So why aren't these characters and heroic concepts represented in the game?

Well, now they are! Thanks to the marvel that is Strange Eons, I have re-created the pulp heroes of yore for inclusion, replacing the existing investigators individually or completely. For game balance purposes I have built them re-using the existing Special Abilities in new and different combinations while giving each character an appropriately heroic twist to their combination of other traits.

To start with, the classic character that defines Pulp Heroes:

Seriously? No feedback? I know its been a while since I last posted, but I had hoped that Avi_dreader or Thecornthian or somebody would have posted some thoughts as to balance & playability. I know Lord_of_Squirrls & Morgain dislike re-used Special Abilities, but I think they can be new & different when used in different combos. Anyway, unless my original post wasn't clear, feedback is welcome.

::Sigh:: it's nothing personal. I rarely give feedback for non-ancient ones and non-heralds. I didn't really read most of them, but just from skimming through this thread, the pictures look nice (for what it is). It looks like the gun image isn't high enough quality though.

Thanks anyway! For some reason the Item pictures uploaded to DeviantArt (which I use to host my work for posting) didn't come through so clearly. I'll see what can be done about that.

Hi Feonor they are interesting characters but I'm not a fan of how they pretty much all start with .45's. .45's are too good for all the investigators to have in my opinion, maybe they make sense thematically for your investigators though, I'm not sure.

Also for your .45's it looks like you have the labelled as Common Items but the colouring shows that they are Unique Items.

I'll try give some thoughts later, but a tv show I like just started...

Peace

I'm a fairly prolific homebrewer on other gaming forums. Trust me feedback is usually not so easy to come by. Kudos on making classic Pulp characters for the game though. I have plenty of friends who'd love to try playing Doc Savage or The Shadow.

Greetings!

I am very new to the forums (just joined today) and I am a little overwhelmed at how amazing some of these fan made scenerios are! Yours included.

I think that they look great and plan on trying them out for a fun pulp cthulhu outing.

I like how they are powerful, but not too powerful.

A neat fun variation. Congrats on the good job!

Neat idea. You're missing Bulldog Drummond, Richard Hannay and (maybe) Tintin.
