Penny Arcade Reprint

By vermillian2, in UFS General Discussion

Not sure if its ok for me to say this or not, but the sheet of paper wasn't really addressed to any form of secretiveness nor expressed a desire to keep it as such so...

With our prerelease kit we got a letter from Broman saying that FFG has resecured rights to penny arcade and that we'll be seeing a reprint of it (didn't go in to specifics on if this would be a perfect reprint or one with changes to card texts...). WOOOOOOOOOO!

Discuss.

Pete am I conflicted on this.

On the one hand if it just a reprint, then that would be a good sign that they are going to support Legacy, which is something they DESPERATELY need to do. And there's not much point in reprinting Legacy only cards if they're not going to support Legacy play.

On the other hand, I would also love to see a new set from PA, especially if was a proper set (in boosters rather then battle box format).

My guess is that we may see On The Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness flavored cards, rather than a complete reprint.

If it's the latter, Dirty Pool Balrog, anyone?

Every card that has been reprinted has had the most current block symbol printed on it. I'm guessing if they reprint Penny Arcade stuff they will have the next block symbol on them and be block 3/block 4 legal. So they won't be reprinting legacy only cards.

i thought they had stated that they were not going to do any more box set/ battle pack type products. So i am expecting to see this in the form of booster expansion. Other wise why wouldnt they have just printed the KOF battle pack which we got most of the cards from in the new set

This is one of the questions for steve when we interview him on Jan 5th so we will hopefully get an answer .

/me crosses fingers for Double Dealing + Tycho unban/reprint... :3

Very interesting, I also hope that it'll have that new flavor instead of the same old cards with foil added... or at very least, if there must be foil added, let it be good enough that half the board isn't complaining about it.

Not.....Sure....if...want.... my.php?image=1220602742287oi3.jpg

I swear to god, if they give me Tycho again I will never lose a game ever again.

Dear God no, not Penny Arcade again?! We had to suffer through a good two years of Tycho, I really don't much fancy having to suffer through another... I really trule hope this isn't just a reprint of the original battle box. There were only about 5-10 playable cards within that box, and the ones that were weren't nice to stare down. Lord Of The Makai and Fruit F&***er? Tycho and the new Reversals? Sentient Appliance AND Secret Project? Whimsy?! ALL OVER AGAIN?!

I'll repeat my previous statement: Dear God no... (However if it's a new boxset, I'll probably grumble a little bit, but will play it anyway to keep up if I have to...)

Really, the only card I'd be particularly happy about a reprint are the ones that aren't simply amazing (like Whimsy or Fruit F-er with all the cheap momentum/hax) but are still kinda nifty. Stuff like Apathy, Calculating (no one has ever really abused this on me, maybe I'm just innocent), Treachery (this + Donovan*?), maybe Specialist Knowledge...

Tycho has already had enough reprints, we don't need the one with the draw tech too ;)

FF + LotM + Chaos Character F Sting Like A Bee x2

You will NEVER fail your check.

It gets worse if you play Chikemuri Kuruwa, because then you can just refill your hand and attack again!

This is fantastic news if it is accurate!

There are quite a few players that recently have gotten into the game, and missed their opportunity to get the PA set, so even if it is simply a reprint, this will be a great opportunity for more people to get their hands on their favorite webcomic.

If it is a reprint + errata/new cards, that would be ten times better! Let's hope we get some new stuff, maybe more balanced for the current meta. I also would like to see some more cards (not necessarily character cards, but foundations/assets like FF or Sentient Appliance) representing other characters from Penny Arcade, like Cheeto, Twisp & Catsby, Charles, Annarchy, Mr. Period, or even Hector!

I love the variety that the PA set brings, in terms of bringing more than just fighting games, so I will gladly support this decision.

Though I hope it is in battle pack format, since I don't see an entire PA set supporting itself sadly. Things like the rumored God Of War and such don't really lend themselves to the amount of characters and styles that fighting games have, so they would really work better as battle packs. Example: God Of War Battlepacks being 2-4 decks, with different versions of characters like: *Kratos* Vs Zeus, **Kratos** Vs Medusa etc. Again, just my 2cents.

When I was pulling out our Prerelease support and read the PA reprint to our owner even she went "......". She remembered all the annoyance we had when dealing with Dirty Pool, FF, Whimsy, dirty dealing and so forth. But it didn't say it would be a new block remake or just a reprint so that people could get access to the cards for collection/legacy sake, So we'll have to wait and see. Though I sure as heck dont' want to see P.A. again in this enviorment. Because atm it doesn't have the answers for it yet.

Since Steve said at GenCon that they don't expect to be printing any more Battle Packs since they don't make a very good business case, I'm betting that this is a new set, which would be very welcomed. Just make sure that **Gabe** is better than **Tycho**.

Let me give you a few details to help clear things up a bit. We are talking to them about doing a reprint with updated card text/errata to balance it out with the current meta also taking into account past and current problem cards or potential problems. With the buzz is set generated last time we think it will be a great way to promote the game and recruit more players. More details to follow. As for why it is not a new set the PA guys are supper busy doing other amazing things and it is just not possible right now.

See you in the arena,

Steve

that sounds good to me. Now I can try out Penny Arcade in UFS. Albeit a more balanced remake, but a remake none the less. gran_risa.gif

So, from what I gather in this statement, it would be updated card text and errata, but the art would stay the same?

Would this invalidate the first Penny-Arcade set or would these cards be available for use in current Standard play? Legacy?

I would just love to see the penny arcade release card made legal in standard hehe....

Thanks Steve. Sorry to drop this bomb shell on the environment without back up... but you know... it was on a sheet of paper for all in the store to read, so I figured might as well get it out sooner rather than later.

Typically, as has happened in the past for UFS, when new versions of old cards are printed (without the ** or *** and so on to designate that this is a brand new card), the new text of the new versions are to count as a blanket errata of the old cards and invalidate the texts of the old cards, should there be a difference. However, continued use of the older cards has typically been permitted (see Lost Memories and shiney Lost Memories).

Looking forward to it soon (ish I suppose). And it looks like another battle pack. Which is fine for me. Plans to not do any more battle packs and reality and change of buisiness deals that one thought were impossible at one time, change.

Tune in the our interview with steve on commit one podcast and hopefully we will get some concrete answers about what is for sure going to happen.

TYCHO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Part of me loves this, part of me is horrified at the following cards potentially coming back:

Dirty Pool
Dramatic Monologue
Rare Card
Sentient Appliance
Tycho (7/23 in the current environment is for lack of a better term, dumb. The abilities he has brings him up above that to a level unheard of)
Whimsy

Part of me is also elated that the following might come back:

Calculating
Erode the Human Soul (mill in block 3 you say)
The Horns

And lastly par of me wonders is Gabe or unsporting conduct are going to be remade to become playable

A reworked PA Battle Box released as some sort of "anniversary project" would be fantastic.

Balance some of the cards (Tycho), Rework some others (Gabe), and completely redesign some others (Every flipping attack in the set) and it should be good times.

Having a blanket errata for that many cards would be an utter nightmare though. I'd gladly shell out the 20 dollars again, especially if it meant I got 2 more of those sweet, sweet deck boxes.

It should be noted that those exact same deck boxes have allowed me to generate interest in this game down here in Tucson.

"Dude, a Penny-Arcade card game?"

"Yes, would you like to know more?"

"Heck yeah"
