Anakin Article
Tabletop Admiral updated. Still need to code in "Tempted" and the multiple rank options on "Sieze the Initiative".
I reeeeally like Force Barrier. I want a new "leader" Jedi (as opposed to jump and chop) for Rebels that I can use it on.
Very excited to play hope and fear on the same model simply for puns.
the two new force upgrades look good, not necessarily for anakin, but they will definitely open up some obi options, making it far easier for him to act as a bubble for clones.
The command cards will turn anakin into a monster over the course of the game but that’s a lot of opportunities for suppression or making your plays seem obvious.
excited though... this is where the fun begins
I really like this risk and reward Anakin. I feel like he’s going to be solid but a reckless player will ruin him. Which is sort of thematic.

My thinking exactly.
Djem so mastery is a nice back up for if he doesn’t one hit an opponent in combat, twinned with stance, am I able to one hit
yes —> offensive stance. (Reroll to make sure one for nearby clones through exemplar)
no —->defensive stance (dodge token for djem so, spare if it’s a really nasty attack, or for clones if not needed)
Seize the Initiative looks good for Padme. Add another fire support clone unit for the round or an emergency activation for something in trouble. @Rebel-Smuggler agreed on the force upgrades. Looking forward to Force Barrier on Obi.

it is not for the clones, it is commander or operative only
Looks fantastic, but do those pip cards apply for the whole game? like if you activate his 3 pip and later on arent at range 1-2 of a friendly unit at the start of his activation does he gain supression?

thats what it sounds like, yeah,
I can see a lot of players getting him to flee when he first comes out

I was thinking Padme could use it with Authoritative to pass the command to another unit.

ah yeah, good thought
I can see saber throw being stapled to Anakin, at least to start with
From the article:
QuoteFor example, opponents would be wise not to underestimate Anakin Skywalker’s power. This card enhances both his lightsaber strikes and his mastery of the Force, making him even more useful in combat. But Anakin Skywalker must also capitalize on this aggression or else he will gain a suppression token every round he does not perform an attack. Doing so requires him to first move into melee combat, of course, and playing This is Where the Fun Begins allows him to confront an enemy and make an attack all at onece while also helping him avoid damage along the way. In this case, however, Skywalker must also be the first friendly unit to activate to avoid gaining a suppression token.
So Anakin loses a whole turn when his flaw card is played on him. Interesting, and neat that he can equip all force powers, he certainly looks like he would be the most powerful force user in the game if you managed to play all his command cards, I think I'd priorities his 2 pip first, and his 1 pip if I was focusing just on the keywords he gets.
The new upgrades are all awesome, Luke is going to love Offensive/Defensive stance, and that force barrier is good as well, though I'm not sure who on the current line up I'd use it on, maybe on Anakin to help preserve clone lives, it seems sort of pointless on Obi Wan since he already has Guardian, but I guess these are free cancels on top of his Guardian with no risk to himself either, I just feel the fact he has a more consistent version already makes me want to pass this card up on him.
The card art is Vader and I can see that being useful I suppose but not sure what on the Empire side I'm playing with Vader that I'd want to preserve. If we can get some cheap Imperial Force users (looking at you Inquisitors) maybe they'd go well with Palpatine to help keep his damage low.
Edited by NithorianI was really looking forward to this.
So 2 out of 3 of Anakin’s command cards only give 1 order, but each card gives more and more Keywords, but also gives him extra suppression, up to 3 suppression per round, which is a lot considering how little GAR has to control suppression, but beyond all that, you can’t give orders to Anakin on one round chosen by your opponent. I don’t see it yet, but he has to be good with that many Keywords, right? Anakin is definitely not great for helping or even controlling the rest of the army. Like a direct opposition to Rex, or even Obi.
Wonder if there will be more 2 commander lists (Anakin and Rex or Obi), or if he will be ignored for a commander that better synergizes with the army like Rex. I guess time will tell.
If Anakin does get play, I can see Endurance stapled to his card (and Force Push of course).

Hope and Ayla on the Saber can definitely mitigate suppression. Granted Hope would either eat up an Anakin slot (of which he only has two) or it would require Obi-wan (which is pretty thematic that Obi-wan would be the one preventing Anakin from going too hard in a fight).

He's not losing the whole turn, issuing an order is not the same as activating.

It’s unlikely that Hope ever gets used (especially competitively), there are just much better Force cards. Also including Ayla means 170+ point tank along with a 200 point Jedi, unlikely to be in a good list.

Sorry, that’s what I meant. You can’t place an order token on him at the beginning, but can draw it randomly, which is antithetical to Jedi play. You really want to chose when they go, and that means having the token on them, not random. But maybe one round won’t be bad. Of course it is a round chosen by your opponent, so expect it at the worst time.

Time will tell on whether hope and/or Ayla pairs well with Anakin, but how are you getting 200 Points on Anakin? Or were you referring to Ayla + Obi-wan (at 200 points)?

Also, if This is Where the Fun Begins has been played, Not a Story the Jedi Would Tell also gives Anakin a suppression unless the GAR players gets extremely lucky.

Anakin Skywalker (160 + 30 = 190 ) --Force Push (10), Force Reflexes (10), Endurance (6), Tenacity (4)
But you’re right, time will tell. Anikin could be awesome in any list, or just a hot mess. I’ve notice the written version never measures up to irl. I’d love to play him in a list, or see someone play him. There are a lot of moving parts on Anakin and that in itself may be a detractor, or just hella fun to play. We’ll have to see.
Edited by JediPartisanBold Anakin’s total point cost

The risk you run with that order is if he does not meet the conditions of those cards every round he gets 1 suppression from each card in play since they're permanent. I was thinking his 3 pip first to get Reliable 2 and Exemplar online but it also will depend on play style. Endurance seems like an auto include on him either way.

Anakin costs 160 plus whatever upgrades you put on him. Fully loaded he will be close to 200 points.

Not trying to be a jerk/troll, but I asked about Anakin at 200 because that seemed high. I went and looked it up after, and the max amount you could spend at present is 192. Force powers currently max at 10 each, and Training max at 6 each. In a game where every point matters, 192 != 200

Sorry, I rounded up because 192 is still a quarter of your army and when added to another quarter (170+), it doesn’t leave a lot of room for the army, especially when that army’s cheapest naked unit starts at 52 points. Play around with you favourite builder, you’ll see what I mean. There is a reason clones don’t play 2 tanks competitively, but CIS does.
