When do NK-7s take a token off?

By flatpackhamster, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Is it before the tokens can be used in the Spend Defence tokens phase and if not why not. HIE does its damage before that phase and (at least as I understand it) you can't redirect that damage.

No, they’re after defense tokens because they’re critical effects .

Declare target

measure range

roll dice

Modify dice

Defense tokens

critical effect

tally damage

apply damage.

hie is untraceable/un redirect able because it doesn’t add damage to the total, it just DEALS DAMAGE RIGHT THE **** NOW. It’s after the tokens have been chosen, but before their effect kicks in.

Brace in particular is effectively “choose this now, and when you tally damage, that number is halved.”

redirect is “choose this now, and when damage is dealt out after being tallied, you can redirect it one point at a time.”

both are set up during defense tokens. But don’t work until after hie and all is done.

And to be clear only brace, redirect and salvo take effect after critical effects: the contain, evade and scatter effects are resolved before the critical effect.

DCO contains shut HIE down like any other crit.

Thanks. It does rather devalue them which is a shame.

They’ve never been considered great, for sure...
