Okay one topic could be: Advice for the aspiring gamer: How to build a good deck in an hour.

I am from Maryland (noticed your in WV which is pretty close) and from what I can tell, their isn't too much going on around here with this game either. If you ever catch wind of anything around here please shoot me a message. My gaming circle loves the game but it is one of those casual situations where I am actually the sole owner of the cards. Also does anywhere know of somewhere in the area that still has copies of Spawn of Sleeper and Mountains at Madness in stock?

Oh and I second the deck building article...that is always helpful. Maybe also some faction specific articles?

llorando.gif I Must be dumb and doomed : I cannot read anything but an article on "High Elves unitless deck" for WI.

He's been beating Warhammer to death for the past week.

He'll get back to us after the excitement wears off... I have his Whispers pack at my house afterall. Mwahahahaha!

Chevee

What Chevee said.

I have been playing a lot of Warhammer: Invasion lately. I have 2 different play groups and one plays Warhammer and the other plays CoC. Over the weekend, I just happened to play Warhammer. Wednesday, I play CoC.

Enough rambling, I'll post something this afternoon about the deck I would have taken to regionals and other musings.

I regret that I must agree with your assessment on Hastur at Worlds. I expect to see a lot of Hastur/Dreamlands/Birds. It is a shame, which is why I questioned the idea of a "soft ban" in the construction forum. If FFG isn't going to help, maybe we as players can choose to not play a broken build?

You know, even if they made Magah Birds only trigger when played from hand it would help a little bit...

Its quite clear that Maga Dream decks will be present in some form or fashion. So as players we need to either insitute the soft ban proposed by TheProfessor or come prepared to either use it or beat it. I personally am coming as best prepared I can be to either defeat or utlize the archtype.

The jury is still out on my opinion on wether the deck is 'too powerful' or not so agreeing to a soft ban is hard, but seemingly agreeable as I don't like useing, playing against, winning with, or losing to the combination. Its the type of thing that forces you to be prepared for at all times or risk facing it and auto-losing to it. It also increases the difficutly to make decks and play decks that want to use the combo. When the entire deck is basically dependant on getting a single card in play on your first turn and having no way to search for it is just... not fun. In fact I'm suprised that people are so effective with it. Sure the mulligan rule helps out a lot, but you want to have that card on turn 1 for at least 2 games in a 3 game match multiplied by the number of rounds played.

Though, I suppose if the field is flooded with the deck its not that big of a suprise...

As for a soft ban though. I wouldn't fight it if everyone who was playing agreed to it well before the tournament, but I don't see a way for it to be possible except right before the tournaments start which is kind of late when considering the changes that (most likely) several people would need to make on the spot.

The wheels are in motion boys and girls, the tournament.... is upon us.

PS. If it does dominate worlds I wonder if we'll see the Descendant of Eibon un-erratta'd. After all the steps make his abilitly almost useless... meh I'll keep fighting for it.

This was my first thought. Rather then a soft ban, or official FFG action, lets consider that this will be the primary deck seen, and through the forum create a strategy to neuter it. If players are gunning for that deck, maybe everyone will see some new stuff?

I agree in principle. I used a Maga/Steps deck at Regionals and won most of the games I played. Only 1 match required 3 games to finish.

On the other hand, after having used it and seeing how quick and un-fun it is to play, I think I shall not use such a deck at Nationals, even if it means likely defeat.

The challenge of course is that 1 week before Nationals, people might be hesitant to share their anti-Hastur strategies...

Well, having our NAtional behind us, let me tell you that our World Champ is totally right.

The Top 4 decks were full of birds ... And the seventy steps ....

It's not a pleasure to encounter such decks, but, well, that's the actual meta and I hope it will change next year.

You can see the french champion deck in this threat :

An beware the might "Thing in the ground deck", this one being quite powerfull (droping 2 AO in the second turn is terrible!)

A big cheers for the gaming blog, which I enjoy reading, despite I don't agree with everything! A nice perspective on the game!!!

Where in MD are you guys? I live in Frederick and would love to get back in to the game.

is this an old thread because all of these are from last year. there were no birds this year at gencon.

Yes, this is an ancient thread. The guy who was writing the blog and I are in Fairmont, WV. He doesn't play anymore... it's just me now. Though, Tom and I are starting to play monthly just outside of Pittsburgh!
